Prior to the Storming of Bastille, the formation National Assembly defied the order of King Louis XVI to disperse but eventually he hesitantly accepted it and forced the members of other Estates to join. During this time, the king gathered troops in attempt to dissolve the assembly and peasants hear spreading rumors about the massing of troops near Paris that is part of an "aristocratic conspiracy" to overthrow the Third Estate. This along with the dismissal of the liberal finance minster, Jacques Necker, ultimately led to several hundreds of people storming the symbol of royal tyranny, Bastille which was a royal prison where the people obtained weapons for the city's defense. This event brought the French authority in fear and eventually led to the reinstatement of Louis' finance minister and withdrawal of troops. It's significant because it allowed the National Assembly to continue its work towards the making of a new constitution and marked the beginning of the French revolution.

Because of the chaotic rebellions caused by the peasants throughout France, the National Assembly decided to respond to the peasants' demands by abolishing old noble privileges such as peasant serfdom in areas where they still existed, exclusive hunting rights, right to make peasants work on the roads, and fees for having legal cases judged in the lord's court. The main goal of the peasants after the National Assembly's decision was to protect this abolition of the noble privileges. This event was an effect of the Storming of the Bastille and the Great Fear.

The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was issued by the National Constituent Assembly as a solution to guarantee and protect individual rights of all French citizens. This document was greatly significant being only two pages long, its ideals of guaranteed equality before the law, a representative government, and individual freedom spread throughout France, the rest of Europe and around the world. However this document did not have an actual effect on the poor, in addition to the economic crisis worsening due to the aristocrats fleeing the country after the Storming of Bastille the luxury market collapsed and unemployment among working classes increased since number of foreign markets decreased. Although the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen revolutionized the rights of the peasantry of France due to the input of the Great Fear and the Storming of Bastille instilling fear of peasant revolts continuing further, their economic hardship remained in their daily lives.

Another peasant rebellion started in the French countryside just five days after the Storming of the Bastille, which was called The Great Fear. These peasants were armed with weapons and attacked their landlords for their suffering under the French feudal system. Peasant uprisings caused fear through destroying private properties and burning powerful documents such as feudal contracts of the nobility. This relates back to the Storming of Bastille because it received influence from the storming and carried on the revolutionary fervor.

This Constitution was the first in French history. The king became only a symbol for the monarchy and the actual lawmaking powers were handed over to the National Assembly, who were elected by wealthy French males. The Constitution broadened women's rights to seek divorce, inherit property, and receive financial support for illegitimate children from fathers, but continued to restrict women from political office and voting rights. However, a small number of people criticized the decision and argued that the rights of man should be applied to all French citizens.

The Constitution of France relates to the Storming of Bastille because it was the initial reason why the Third Estate wanted to strive for a new constitution since the commoners sought more political rights and involved role in the lawmaking process.
