CPR is useful in medical emergencies where someone has stopped breathing or their heartbeat has stopped. The reading says, “CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other vital organs until more definitive medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm,” (10). This can include near drowning or a heart attack. People who are not trained should give hands-only CPR with about 100 chest compressions per minute. Those who are trained should start with 30 chest compressions then check the airway and give rescue breaths. Before CPR, check to see if the person is conscious or unconscious and call 911. First, put the person on their back. Then begin compressions to restore blood flow by pushing fast and hard in the center of their chest. People who are trained should then clear the airway by tilting the head back and lifting the chin forward to listen for normal breathing. The iBook says, “Look for chest motion, listen for normal breath sounds, and feel for the person's breath on your cheek and ear,” (11). Finally, those who are CPR trained should do mouth-to-mouth or nose-to-mouth breathing with two rescue breaths. Repeat the cycle until medical professionals arrive.

My dad was a lifeguard in high school and had to become COR certified. By doing this, he had to do a demonstration to show he knew how to do it. My mom also took CPR training classes because she was a babysitter in high school. She wanted to be able to act in case of an emergency.
