Monopolies helped cities and the industry grow in the 19th century. John D. Rockefeller monopolized the oil industry with the standard oil company. Rockefeller used the money from his monopoly to give to the city of New York. Rockefeller's money created parks and squares and established an innovated city life. The money monopolies spent helped modernize every day life. Not only by donating to cities but also by dominating industries such as railroads, oil and steel, which helped American become more progressive. The tactics to create these monopolies however negatively helped the economy. Government officials favored to help business men over farmers. This put farmers into economic distress which impacted the economy by creating higher interest rates.

Monopolies in the late 19th century were beneficial to the US economy because they established a industry that was a need, and the huge corporations fought for that need at lowering prices for the consumer, while supplying jobs for the economy. However the monopolies were also bad because they would give the corporations so much power they had influence on the government, and any other institution that served to make them more money.

Though monopolies did help grow industries in the 19th century, the monopolies also caused harm to the US economy. This is so because as the industries were dominated by only a few smart businessmen, those men, in some instances, took absurd measures in order to stay in competition with one another, but more importantly, to beat the competition. These industries then fueled the economy by creating thousands of jobs, but they also became so strong that they had the power to sway government officials.

These industries, such as Rockefeller's oil industry, brought much income to the US and raised the GDP and boosted economy, except Gould forget that guy. On the other hand, monopolies lead to more government control due to the fact that there's only one place to really be regulated and smaller businesses can just put up or shut up because they were practically irrelevant. Also many would hoard money from their industry for personal gain or to just own a market for yourself, I'm looking at you Gould, so the government had to step in in some instances to end the shenanigans.

Monopolies in the 19th century were beneficial to the economy as it allowed for much needed industries to grow very quickly. In turn, this led to more jobs being available to society, and this can especially be seen within the oil industry with Rockefeller. Additionally, this led to the United States becoming the most industrialized nation of its time. However, with this, monopolies also brought along government corruption as government officials would side with corporations due to bribes which would then allow them to remain strong. Also, monopolies kept others from entering the market as a competitor as they would easily be pushed out. This meant that consumers only had one choice when it came to goods such as steel and oil.

While monopolies were beneficial, they were also harmful. Monopolies would buy out other companies or intimidate the competition into dropping out. Monopolies would also treat their workers poorly and allow workers to work in dangerous situations. So, during the late 19th century monopolies were harmful and beneficial.

For instance, J.P Morgan reorganized business structures an management so businesses could regain profit. In addition, the railways helped to establish the US as a powerful nation. They allowed for the growth of many industries such as oil, steel, and railroad. These monopolies helped build the image of American society as it is today. While these monopolies did boost America's economy it did cause major differences between the wealthy and the poor. For instance, at one point in time, John Rockefeller accounted for 2% of the entire nations GDP. This contrast between the wealth and the poor of society shows the problem of monopolies and how the poor will remain poor, while few can become immensely rich

Monopolies are not good nor bad. There are pros and cons to specific monopolies. For example, a patent holder has a monopoly on the patent. Depending on the patent laws, the pros may or may not outweigh the cons. The patent laws may encourage new inventions and/or they may encourage patent sitting. There is not an easy question to answer.

The development of monopolies in the late 19th century was beneficial to the American economy through the increase in urbanization, job creation, and private business which comes with it. Andrew Carnegie, for example, donated $125,000,000 to tge creation of colleges and universities. His ability to do this came from the substantial amounr of wealth he acquired through monopolizing his industry. He also donated $10,000,000 to the creation of a teacher's pension fund. The rapid growth of monopolies also creates a large amount of available jobs within their respective industries. However, the monopolies of the late 19th century harmed the American economy through human interest in that the banking industry gained longer working hours in combination with lowered wages due to J.P. Morgan's selfishness within the industry. Jay Gould also harmed the work force as he exerted to much control over his labor force, resulting in the Wabash Strike. Jay Gould also had to do with the creation of Black Friday in the Gold market as he found a way to increase his profits. This came at the expense of the entire American economy's prices and profitability, however, as one of the greatest American economy crashes of all time was created.

The introduction of monopolies in the early 19th century benefitted the economy because it created markets that allowed for a high amount of money flow as well as an increase in jobs. These jobs allowed more and more people to be employed, thus allowing them to spend more and keep the economy flowing. Although the monopolies allowed for more jobs and an increase in production of good and spending, it allowed for the business owners to regulate the prices and the wages of the workers which harmed the poorer workers because they were at the will of the monopoly business owners who controlled the prices of the things they spent their money on.

Monopolies allowed the US to develop a wide spread infrastructure spanning the country, and burst into the industrial revolution as a world leader. They did so because in order to corner their market, the companies had to be incredibly efficient and large, meaning the United States ended up producing massive amounts of output for very low input. Some bad things about monopolies that happened in America was that entrepreneurs had harder times starting a business and being successful.
