When a leader shows determination, it can lead to two very different perceptions by subordinates. Determination in a leader can be inspiring and uplifting to those around them, but it can also come off as emotionless and stern. Finding a balance for a determined person seems to be one of the biggest challenges. I think that there is a place for determination in every leader’s repertoire. Seeing someone in a leadership role have goals and be able to accomplish them can help to motivate others on the team to do the same and to not give up.

Integrity

To me, integrity is the most important trait of someone in a leadership position. I would not be interested in being led by someone who did not show integrity, especially in a high-pressure environment. I think this word is a key difference between the term’s “management” and “leadership.” Leaders, lead teams by example of what to do and how to do it with utmost integrity. Managers on the other hand do what they need to do to get the job done, despite possible moral ramifications. Being an example for your team to look up to and strive for is one of the driving forces for myself in my leadership position. It is something I strive for every day in my leadership position. The only downfall that I could see from having a leader with high integrity, would be thinking that the person is too flawless and feeling that their level is unattainable. It is important to remember that we are all human and make mistakes, but it is truly how you hold yourself in the moments after a blunder that show who you really are.
