One of the 5 R's of sustainability is Recycle. You know what recycling is and its importance for the environment?

Recycling is the reuse of discarded materials, that is, materials that are not used by anyone but can be recycled.

Recycling is important for the environment because it helps conserve natural resources such as wood, water and minerals, reducing the need to extract new raw materials, and it is also important because it is linked to social and economic aspects. This is because, when we dispose of products properly, we add value to the process and to the material, as we improve reuse rates, making production costs cheaper.

There are some types of recycling, among them are: mechanical recycling that collects the residues, which are then pressed and ground, generating granules; energy recycling, which is based on the incineration of solid waste, thus, the collected waste is burned in a controlled environment, generating enough heat energy to supply thermal power plants; and the chemical recycling that occurs especially through the heating of waste, which is transformed into fuels, oils and various gases, notably used as raw materials and as an energy source.

de: Sophia e Lara
Fontes:https://mundoeducacao.uol.com.br/geografia/reciclagem.htm
sae-ourinhos.com.br
meuresiduo.com

One of the 5 R's of sustainability is Reduce. I'll talk a little and summarize what Reducing would be in the context of the 5 Rs.

Reduce the use of harmful, wasteful, and non-recyclable products. Reducing dependency on these kinds of products results in less waste materials ending up in landfill and the associated negative environmental impacts. We recommend always using the minimum amount required to avoid unnecessary waste. For example, when printing a document, print double-sided to cut your waste output in half. Other commonly used items businesses can focus on reducing include single-use plastics, plastic packaging, organic waste, and Styrofoam cups.

This step is extremely beneficial to the end goal of the process. Reduce refers to the reduction of harmful, wasteful, and non-recyclable materials so you can save more money, which also benefits the environment. When you lessen the amount of these materials, especially non-recyclables, less of it goes in the garbage. All garbage that isn’t deemed hazardous waste will get dumped in a landfill. The more material that gets dumped in the landfill, the quicker it fills, thus requiring more space for garbage storage. This ultimately leads to more negative effects on the environment. When you limit the use of these materials, you are making for a more sustainable future.

Reduce the amount of ingredients you throw away – by planning meals ahead and organising produce in your fridge/cupboards in date order.
Reduce the amount of food you discard when you’re cooking – by incorporating every part of the ingredients into side dishes or other recipes.
Reduce the wastage off your plate – by controlling portions and saving/freezing leftovers.
Reduce what you send to the council lorries – by starting a compost heap in your own garden, then using the nutrient rich fertiliser to feed your own vegetable garden (you can even take the pips/seeds out of your scraps first to try to grow your own!)

Miguel Duarte
Lucas Diniz

One of the 5R's of sustainability is Repair. And i will summerize what is.

Repair according to the dicionary is to put something that is damaged, broken, or not working correctly, back into good condition or make it work again

Repairing is important for sustainabitlity by fixing somenthing insted of throwing on the trash and buy a new one, this save a lot of resources because its more cheap to fix somenthing then made a new one from scratch. Reparing reduces the materials used and reduces the waste generated and the trash that fill and destroy the land and using less space to extract the resources needed to make new products and machinery.

Repair can also save money and time because the processes of reparing takes less time than making new ones and also is more cheap, varying from the damage and to disponibility of spare spare parts (in the case of replacement of a terminal dameged battery, screen, motherboard, display and etc) and will also be more accesible to all.

Heitor Chaves-7 ano

The accelerated increase in the planet's population, combined with the exaggerated consumption of products and the incorrect management of waste, has contributed to a serious environmental problem: the continuous production of waste. Reuse is one of the ways that contributes to solving this problem. Reusing a product means applying it again in the same function or in several other possibilities of use. In reuse, unlike what happens in recycling, the material is not reprocessed and transformed into a new item, but can be incorporated in the creation of new products.

Maria Clara Saiol Macedo

Recycling is the process of reusing waste to produce a new product. In this way, it serves as raw material, closing its manufacturing cycle. This procedure aims to reduce waste hence the importance of recycling although it is not the only measure for this.

The amount of waste produced by human activities is already a worldwide problem. News about the impact of plastics on the environment, especially on the lives of marine animals, are frequent. One of the most important solutions to this problem is recycling.

Some materials take hundreds of years to decompose, so awareness about their consumption, use, reuse and proper disposal is essential to build a sustainable society. The reuse action is the one that most needs to be understood and put into practice by us.

Reusing the product means giving a new use to an item that has already been used, thus avoiding a new production process for that product.

Recycle

It is the reuse of a product so that it becomes raw material for the manufacture of another object. Recycling is important as it helps to reduce the amount of waste generated and also reduces the use of our natural resources. Among the materials that can be recycled are: paper, plastic and aluminum.

In Brazil, only 4% of solid waste is recycled, a rate well below that of countries in the same income range and degree of economic development, such as Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Turkey, which have an average of 16% recycling, according to data of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). In relation to developed countries, the way to go is even longer. In Germany, for example, the recycling rate reaches 67%. Brazil is 20 years behind in relation to these countries.

Environmental education is a process that needs to be collective and continuous in the lives of all of us, fundamental for a critical awareness of the problems that we often contribute to exist. For this reason, it is important to identify behaviors that contribute to the current situation of environmental imbalance and seek measures that reduce the effects caused by unsustainable habits.

Recycling is important as it helps to reduce the amount of waste generated and also reduces the use of our natural resources. Among the materials that can be recycled are: paper, plastic and aluminum.
Practical activities can be carried out mainly when we refer to the 2 Rs: reuse and recycle. With regard to the first term, some activities would be:

Create toys using materials that would otherwise be discarded;

Do a clothing customization workshop using pieces that are stored and unused;

Create utensils, such as pencil holders, decorated vases for plants, jewelry holders and organizing boxes, using materials that would otherwise be discarded, such as shoe boxes and pet bottles.
Reusing is always good because we help the environment because we need it in our life always.

5Rs - Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Refuse and RethinkAt first there were only 3 R's, shortly afterwards At first, there were only 3 R's, shortly afterwards we had to add some more to direct our thoughts about the environment in which we live, consume and generate our waste.Nowadays we talk a lot about environmental preservation and sustainability due to the impact that we humans cause to the environment in which we live and that gives all the support for our lives. With these issues related to preservation came the so-called R's as guidelines for achieving Environmental Sustainability. These 5 R's are only the initials of some words that determine actions to mitigate our impacts:-RECYCLEIt is transforming materials already used in raw materials for others or the same product. We can make the separation of our waste for recycling encouraging this action. The beer or soda can is a classic example.- REUSEIt is a way to avoid going to waste what can be reused in the same or for other functions. By reusing materials that would be discarded for the landfill, you will be increasing the life of this material and also the place where it would be discarded. For example, a pot olives that turns a container into your kitchen.- REDUCEIt is to avoid waste and to consume less products that attack the environment. Consuming less is great for nature! Do not spend as much money on clothes and electronics as you will use. Think twice before buying something: is it really necessary?- REFUSEIt is to deny the possibility of superfluous consumption and products that generate significant environmental impacts and that pollute our atmosphere, tides and waters. Avoid the excess of plastic bags and packaging. Always have a cloth bag to carry your shopping.- RETHINKRegarding the need to consume and the patterns of production and disposal adopted in our lives. We must ask ourselves: How is this produced? Why should I consume something unnecessary? Where does my waste go when you leave my gate? Does it stop being a problem? These and other questions can lead us to actions that improve the quality of life for all. We must rethink how our beaches, rivers, forests and groundwater will be. Our lives depend on the balance of our Environment and for that, we could follow some R's in our daily lives

Made to César H.

The 5rls of sustainabilty are : recycle, rethink, reduce, refuse and reuse.

Recycle: it is necessary
Unlike the reuse of waste, work with material recycling requires an industrial process that will transform waste into a new product. This option reduces the need to exploit new resources in nature, is cheaper than producing in the traditional way, as it requires less energy and inputs, and generates employment and income for the population.

Always be careful to buy products that can be recycled, so you will also be contributing to a cleaner production process. Selective collection should be part of everyone's reality.

Rethink: consume products responsibly!
Important lesson from Financial Education: before consuming a product, think about your real need and the waste that could be generated. Do you really need what you're buying? If you buy something new, what do you do with the old one? This is a time to reflect on your habits.

Often, reducing consumption may not be possible on a larger scale, but you can make choices that minimize negative environmental, social and economic impacts.

Always evaluate the product's environmental labeling and life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal, considering energy and water consumption, carbon emissions, working conditions in the chain, distribution methods, etc.

Reduce: consumerism
Reducing consumption, avoiding waste and opting for items that are more durable, even if they are a little more expensive (but which will only be replaced in the long term), can be the first steps to put into practice a new lifestyle.

Printing the front and back of the paper, exchanging books and clothes with friends and family, using energy-saving light bulbs, rechargeable batteries, returnable packaging, buying in bulk, using bottles or mugs instead of plastic cups, are other great examples that are easy to adapt in everyday life. day without necessarily changing your standard of living.

Refuse: products that harm the environment
As a consumer, and co-responsible for preserving the planet's natural resources, you can refuse to buy products from companies that are not committed to the environment and, consequently, generate significant socio-environmental impacts.

Reuse: reuse of materials
Reusing products means giving a new use to an item that has already been used and thus extending its useful life to avoid a new production process.

Thus, glass pots become containers to store food, shoe boxes become object organizers, supermarket bags become garbage bags, glass bottles can be used as vases, etc. The internet is full of great home-saving ideas for repurposing objects (and even food scraps). You can lighten your budget and take care of the planet at the same time.

Bea Johnson is the author of Zero Waste Home, a book launched in 2013 telling the story of Johnson and her family and how they switched from a hyper-consumerism lifestyle to a minimalist and sustainable one. The book achieved great success and became a movement itself.

Nowadays there is a growing number of Zero waste activists such as Lauren Singer and Kathryn Kellogg. But, what does de Zero Waste movement imply?
1. Refuse: refuse what you don’t need

The first step to a zero-waste lifestyle is to prevent the waste from entering your home in the first place. This involves saying “no” to promotional samples, junk mail, single-use disposables such as bags, straws, cups, and cutlery, or any short-lived form of unnecessary items.
2. Reduce what you do need

Reducing what you do need implies getting clear about what you need and being mindful about your purchasing decisions. It means to let go of household items that are no longer of use and avoid impulse purchases such as buy 1-get-2 offers, discount products, and processed foods among others.
3. Reuse, extend the useful life of the product

Reusing involves repairing instead of throwing and replacing products and switching single-use items by permanent alternatives. This includes replacing plastic bottles with stainless steel water bottles, for instance, using fabric bags, bamboo toothbrushes, or buying unpackaged foods among other solutions. Also buying second-hand and visiting antique stores.
4. Recycle what you cannon refuse, reduce or reuse

Recycling comes as the last option after refusing, reduce and reusing. The reason is, nowadays, we consume and dispose at a higher path than we are capable of recycling. As a result, many recyclable materials end up in landfills, shipped to developing countries, or in WTE incineration plants as they couldn’t be recycled.
5. Rot what is left

Rot or transform what is left. This applies mainly to organic waste coming from food. As a consumer, there are some methods to compost your household waste such as the Bokashi method, garden compost, or vermicomposting. On the other hand, WTE systems like REVALUO, transform municipal organic waste into fuel.

Made By: Vítor Candido Torrão

Plastic takes about 400 years to decompose in the environment, after all, it is extremely resistant to bacteria and fungi. Therefore, there is a large volume of "loose" plastic out there that occasionally reaches the oceans and, unfortunately, is mistaken for food by animals. The invasion of plastics on our planet is a reality. Just remember that the island of plastic waste that floats in the Pacific Ocean already has 1.6 million km². If we want to preserve the planet, the time has come for each of us to act, which resulted in those sad pictures of turtles and fish in a very sad situation.

Reusing glass to produce new packaging consumes less energy and emits less particulate CO2 waste. Contributing to the preservation of the environment
Glass Recycling is the process by which glass is reused to create new materials, the process basically takes place by melting the glass for reuse. Depending on the purpose of its use, it may be necessary to separate it into different colors. The three main colors are: Clear glass Green glass.
Students: Alisson Valentim da Silva Francisco and Gabriel Silva
