More specifically, Paris in the Twentieth Century was rejected for publication because the publisher deemed it too far-fetched, which was due to the novel's focus on things that had yet to be invented (skyscrapers, gas-fueled cars and mass-transit systems, among many others).

Paris in the Twentieth Century wasn't published until 131 years after its completion, in 1994. It features two main characters named Phileas Fogg and Jean Passepartout, who take a global tour during a time when technology is causing travel to become much easier and more entertaining. Since its publication, it has been adapted for theater, film, radio and television.
