Students who are interested in joining the group counseling will take a preassessment test online that will take them approximately 30 minutes to complete. The test is the Domestic Violence Inventory Pre-Post test. It measures some factors that are affected by family abuse.

Students who score high on certain factors in the test will then have a letter given to them explaining what the group is about, who the intended audience is, what are the expectations, and the ground rules.

Upon that, they will be given a time and place where they will be screened individually and asked how interested they are in attending and what the goals that they want to see happen from the group counseling. The group will consist of ten participants.

Those who are not selected for group counseling will be given other resources that can assist them in other ways.

The participants will be informed of the purpose and intentions of the group. The objectives and goals will be stated for the group's knowledge. The participants will be informed that information that is said within the group will stay and remain confidential as long as no one speaks of it outside of the group. Ground rules will be established so that everyone will be on the same page. Participants will introduce themselves to the other group members to get to know each other.

Stage 2:

Participants will learn interpersonal skills through activities done within the group. They will address personal goals that they have begun to work towards or have achieved while being in group counseling. Allow for participants to relate to others and maybe provide different perspectives on a problem. They will learn the signs and symptoms that come from family violence. Understanding how to cope in stressful situations and use those skills in their everyday lives.

Stage 3:

Participants will learn about how to attain achievable short- and long-term goals. They will identify what those goals are for both their academic and personal lives. Closing, all participants will review over what was learned throughout the counseling sessions and how it has impacted them in their daily lives. A post-assessment will be conducted with the permission of both the parents and the student, to analyze the effects that the group counselng have on the students.

Participant Leadership: give guidance as to what the objective of the session will be. Allow students to address any concerns and their thoughts.

During the middle of the sessions:

Delegating Leadership: once the students have been given the activity, allow for the students to analyze and partake in the activity with minimal guidance from the counselor. Allows for students to not feel pressed to think or feel one way over another way.

During the closing of the sessions:

Participant leadership: return to this leadership to bring back to the focus on the objective of the session and allow for the students to share their findings through their activities.

• Learning the different skills will encourage students to find better alternatives to their issues or problems, both personally and professionally.

Development of socializing techniques:

• Through group activities, students will learn behaviors and social skills.

• Communication among the students will be encouraged and allow for all to express their feelings and ideas.

Universality:

• Having peers who are going through similar situations allows for the students to not feel alone in their situations.
