According to a study done in 2016:
-32% of homeless people are not sheltered
-120,819 of the 549,928 people documented were children under the age of 18
-35,686 were unaccompanied children 
-On the slightly brighter side, homelessness nationally declined 7% since 2007
According to another survey:
-Insufficient income and lack of affordable housing are leading causes
-75% of ELI households end up with less than half of their income to pay for food, medicine, and transportation after paying rent and utilities.

-(569) were not sheltered
-(1,815) were parts of families with children

Most homeless people do actually have jobs, just the insufficient pay and lack of affordable housing is what causes homelessness. Also, when I first got there, I was nervous, but there was really nothing to be worried about. The people I saw were not scary at all, they seemed very welcoming and friendly. The main thing that I have learned from this experience is that judging people gets us nowhere.
