Greek mythology influenced modern culture. The great warrior, Achilles, was killed by an arrow into the heel, thats why today we call a persons weak spot an Achilles heel. The Greek god Hercules had to complete 12 labors before he was accepted into Olympus but today, when someone completes a hard job or task, it is called a Herculean task.

The Greeks had developed new forms of drama and sculpting. Aeschylus was a famous play writer who came up with the idea to change where in the plot the climax was located. Instead of having it located at the beginning of a play, he changed its location to the middle or the end. This builds suspense and causes the viewer to want to stay and finish watching the play. The Greeks also improved on their old forms of sculpting. They wanted their statues to show beauty and detail so they studied the human anatomy.

Socrates was a Greek philosopher who used a method of teaching which today is called the Socratic method. The Socratic method is a method of teaching which is most commonly used by teachers. This method is based on asking questions. Plato was a student of Socrates. He was responsible for creating the Academy, and the book, the Republic.
