]]> 2016-04-20 00:36:53 UTC https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106668962 99029761 https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669108      Entertainment was a huge part of society in the 1950's.  Levittown had places for the people in the community to spend their money on enjoying life.  Just as we do today, Levittown contained places for bowling, ice skating, rollerblading, etc.  The only difference is that now with the advances in technology we have today,  Santa Clarita is withholds these entertainment facilities on a much more wider scale like Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, with of course still having the more old fashion entertainment such as bowling and arcades.  Santa Clarita Valley duplicates a futuristic Levittown on the topic of entertainment because it is home to world famous amusement parks along with small centers like Mountasia and bowling alleys.  Both Levittwon and Santa Clarita Valley allowed people to live close to entertainment they could use with the family or to have some fun individually.   




]]> 2016-04-20 00:38:34 UTC https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669108 99029761 https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669117      What Levittown is mainly known for is its family based community.  The aspect of family being a key part of society and community has truly carried along into cities and towns today like Santa Clarita.  With community pools, centers, and schools popping up close to home; it made a very compact and close community where everyone felt close.  Now that schools were nearby, kids felt as if they were always close to home.  As well as pools and centers where families can go out together and spend more time outside of the house.  This can be seen in our valley today where schools are just up the street and community pools are in walking distance from most peoples' homes.  Levittown has brought about a sense of community and close contact within families that is seen in the generic American home and in today's cities and towns. 


]]> 2016-04-20 00:38:44 UTC https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669117 99029761 https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669342      Sports have always been an iconic theme for the American lifestyle which is exactly why Levittown incorporated sports into its blue prints.  Levittown laid out football fields, basketball courts, and baseball diamonds throughout its communities  in order to fit the resident's lifestyles and hobbies.  Santa Clarita does the same in that the valley has sports complexes and recreation centers close to every community to fit the needs of the people living there.  Having these sport arenas nearby enables the residents to travel less when seeking out their favorite past time.  With everything close to the house, Levittown attracted many people because all their favorite activities were a short distance away, which meant more playing and less travel.  This same concept allowed Santa Clarita to become such a prosperous city that attracts people fro all around the world, just as Levittown did.



]]> 2016-04-20 00:41:31 UTC https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669342 99029761 https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669365 As seen today, car and bus is the most used transportaion in Santa Clarita.  With Levittown creating compact communities with everything closeby, trains, subways, and other uses of transportation began to decline while buses and cars increased ten fold.  The average family used cars to get to and from work, get groceries, and take the family places now, where as before everyone would hop on a train to their destination.  Because the economy was booming, most families could afford cars which was ideal when everything need was a short drive away.  Santa Clarita Valley and the communities within it depend on cars or buses to get them places and without Levittown introducing condensed towns with all needs nearby, may of us could still be taking a train to school.  With Levittown combining everything the average American family would want into small towns and communities, transportation has greatly changed the way we live life and how we get to and from where we need to go.







]]> 2016-04-20 00:41:43 UTC https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669365 99029761 https://padlet.com/99029761/TroyNeffP6/wish/106669497      Water is the basic essential for living.  Levittown kept this in mind when building its city.  Levittown was built around a body of water in order to sustain life and use it for all basic needs.  Santa Clarita and most cities today are built with the same idea in mind, but with greater technology and architecture, we are able to build our own lake such as Castaic which can provide for the City of Santa Clarita.  Although Castaic lake is not what Santa Clarita is mainly supported by,  it is close by and a back-up for any drastic needs.  Levittown and Santa Clarita both were centered around bodies of water and also included fast foods on every block in town.  For the people this is a major benefit because now one can walk "in-n-out" of a restaurant quickly receiving food instead of having to wait a long time or make it themselves.   Fast food has changed the way we live today, and it can all be attributed to Levittown for first incorporating it in in every area of town.
