Cultural heritage links Europe with a common history and values. It also represents the richness and diversity of our cultural traditions. Our shared cultural heritage must be understood, weighing it and celebrating it. However, cultural heritage is not just a reference to the past. It also shows us the way forward and helps us to create our future. Cultural heritage brings people closer and contributes to a more cohesive society. It supports growth and creates jobs in cities and regions and is key to Europe's relations with the rest of the world. It has enormous potential for Europe, but it must be better exploited - and it can help us this year.Europe's cultural heritage faces many challenges - from changes in people's participation in cultural events to environmental threats and illicit trafficking in cultural objects.

 Europeana Collection is Europe’s digital library, museum, gallery and archive that provides online access to a vast store of cultural heritage material from across Europe. Through this multilingual platform, individuals and professionals can discover, research, share and enjoy Europe’s wealth of digital cultural resources such as books, photos, paintings, television broadcasts and 3D objects.

Europeana Collections provides access to over 50 million digitised with sophisticated search and filter tools to help you find what you are looking for. The resources that can be found in Europeana include:texts, images, videos, sound and 3D.

Europeana has also created – in collaboration with selected partners – numerous ready-to-use digital learning resources and tools that you can easily try and implement in your classroom.
The first resource we would like to mention is Transcribathon for education. This is an online collaborative tool designed with the partner Facts & Files, which allows students to transcribe and annotate documents related to the First World War, like diaries, letters, etc.

The aim of the Europeana DSI-3 project (September 2017 – August 2018) is to continue reaching educators and mainstreaming the use of cultural heritage in the classroom. To accomplish this, it organised a Developer Group of teachers (18 teachers from across Europe) who produced a set of learning scenarios, and open source, professional development materials for teachers based on the Europeana Collections. The 18 teachers from Finland, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain cover a range of disciplines and curriculum topics in primary and secondary education, such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects, but also art and languages.
