American Dream:
The American Dream an idea of achieving something great through hard work. Like if you are poor, you work your way up and get rich. The American Dream acts like some kind of hope for a lot of people, especially for immigrants that come from poverty and just people who wants a better life for themselves.

Ellis Island:
Ellis Island is a place that immigrants came before entering The United States. It was the place where they were checked from wealth and sickness. If they were healthy, wealthy and their papers were legal, they could enter the country and start their new, “better” life. It is a good example of a "melting pot", because a lot of people with different cultures, came to Ellis Island.

Frontier:
The frontier heritage represents unsettled places which were gradually settled by colonist, and because these places were so hard to live in, it provided Americans with examples of hard work which lead to the American competiveness. The American Frontier began by the east coast in 1600s and ended about 1890 when the west coast was settled.

The text ”Illegal immigration from Mexico” is about Mexicans who travel to USA

It’s an article from: https://www.usimmigrationsupport.org

The text is about Mexicans who is trying to get over the border to the US with help of coyotes. Coyotes are people who have a lot of knowledge about getting people over the border to the US. The reason that many Mexicans travel to the US is because low wages in their home country, also the unemployment rate is very high. When they arrive to the US they want to get a green card so they can stand in the US for good, and when they find a job they usually want to send money or help their family to get over the border as well.

The way it’s related to our main topic “The melting pot” is that the Mexicans wants freedom and be able to live in the US without bad intentions. Mexicans have different culture than the Americans - Mexicans steals many jobs in the US, and that can lead to a bad community

“I will build a great, great wall on our southern border. And I will have Mexico pay for that wall,” Trump said in his announcement speech. June 2015.

Minority/majority:

A minority is when a small group of people immigrate to a majority country. The minority group will come together, because they share some of the same values. The minority group will live in a parallel society, because sometimes the majority group will exclude the smaller group. This is a well-known phenomenon in a society. It can also be a more everyday life situation. For example, if the majority of students at a school wear streetwear clothes, and a minority group wear suit and tie. This can eventually lead to persecution and exclusion of the minority group.

Pledge of allegiance:

In America, many begin their school day by reciting the pledge. The pledge of allegiance is a method to worship the American civil religion. It is a way to state that the democratic republic is built on freedom. There have been a lot of criticism on the addition of the phrase “under god” that were added in 1954. There have also been a lot of discussion whether it’s all right to reject saying the pledge, especially for small children in schools, because they can’t fully grasp the pledge they are taking.

Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior“Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior” is an article written by Amy Chua and updated jan.8, 2011 12:01a.m. ET. It is about how Chinese parents raise stereotypically successful kids. The fact why Chinese mothers are superior to other mothers around the world is Chinese mothers take control of their children. They are very strict to their children and the outcome of it the Chinese mothers seem to produce children who play academic excellence, musical, mastery and professional success. The Chinese parents believe that they know what is better for their children and the Chinese children must spend their lives replaying their parents by obeying them and making them proud.According to our topic “The Melting Pot” I can relate this article to some of the text we have read. For instance the Mexican when they immigrate to America to get a better life they work as handworkers like carpenter and so on but to Chinese people is a bit different when they immigrate to America they get jobs on big companies, became businessman and so on.

by Denise Duhamel.

The poem is about this American woman and this Filipino man who is marriage and lives together.
Together they have two-year-olds who loves to scream ``NO!``
The Filipino man come from a high culture and the American woman comes from a low culture. And that is the whole problem with then because it ends up in misunderstandings and confused situations.
When the Filipino man says ´´Yes`` it can have different meanings like:
1. I don’t know.
2. If you say so.
3. If it will please you.
4. I hope I have said yes unenthusiastically enough for you to realize I mean no.
so because the man have all these yesses he confuses his wife a lot, and often brings a negative atmosphere between them.
The wife try to solve this problem for an example buying a book saying ``When I say no I feel guilty`` the man says yes but means number 3. ``if it will please you``
In the Philippines people are very nice they don’t get mad as us but they get Tampo witch is like when we get a little mad or grumpy. If the people get really mad it’s called nagdadabog witch is often followed by foot stumping, grumbling, and the slamming of doors. Instead of talking to each other.

So all in all this poem relates to the melting pot, pretty well because it about two different cultures who wants to live together and kind of melting together and make a multicultural world and live the American dream.(the melting pot)
