         <title>European&#39;s Influence on the Ottomans</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- The Ottomans, seeing how well the European government system worked, adopted a system of law similar to theirs.<br>-They also mirrored the European's military system.<br>-Due to European influence, the Ottoman started painting with oil paints on canvases. The most famous Ottoman paintings are of landscapes.<br>- The Ottomans started journaling because of the Europeans. <br>- They also started practicing photography.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Islam was the official religion of the Ottoman Empire.<br>-They had a form of religious freedom: "Millets", which were small communities within the Ottoman Empire who were allowed to  practice their religion.<br>- Devshirme: Non-muslims, as a part of the Devshirme system, had to hand over 20% of their children. The children would be converted to Islam, and forced to work.<br>- As a rule set by the emperor, Mehemid, the Muslims must show respect for all religions.<br>- The Ottomans were tolerant, and actually ENCOURAGED other religions. For a short period of time, the emperor actually tried to attract those who were Jewish to the Ottoman Empire.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Emperors were called "Sultans".<br>- Sultans often had to move at night to avoid assassination.<br>- The Sultan lived in Topkapi, in a palace in Istanbul.<br>- The Ottomans expanded their territory by invading and conquering. <br>-"Fratricide"- The rule that when an emperor came to power, his siblings had to be locked up. When the time would come that the emperor would have his first born, the emperor's siblings and families would be slaughtered.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Ottoman influence on Europeans</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- The government of the Ottoman Empire ruined the balkans for centuries. They tried to eliminate any possible trace of the Ottomans in their government.<br>- They left behind a great deal of their fashion in Europe, which can be seen today in costumes, and museums, and sometimes maybe even seen in an everyday outfit.<br>- The Ottomans brought the Balkans a special type of rose that got them into the rose oil business.<br>- The Ottomans had a huge impact on architecture, leaving behind some of their most traditional designs, specifically their mosques.<br>-  The Ottomans made Europe afraid, as they were a very strong empire, and were basically knocking on Europe's front door. </div>]]></description>
