Around two million people have been evacuated in China as the storm brings torrential rain — a month’s worth expected in a single day in Zhuhai city. Although Ragasa has weakened from super to severe typhoon status, it is still highly destructive with winds of up to 241 km/h (150 mph). It is the world’s strongest storm this year, compared to a Category 5 hurricane, and has been moving across the South China Sea for days. In Hong Kong, the typhoon did not make direct landfall but still injured 90 people as it skirted the coast with fierce winds and heavy rain.
