Consequently, people develop music tastes mirroring songs heard in media, not necessarily what people own. Algorithms enhance this even further by recommending similar (mostly popular) music and suppressing the exposure of new bands.

From a consumer standpoint, the value of music has declined significantly. Every single song can be found and owned with a search bar. Down to a price, every song is equally priced, even the ones that receive billions of plays.  Although the quality of Spotify music is similar to that of a FLAC file, there is still a bit of compression in streaming services. Music is not seen as a good but rather a service. The media is often really biased and so presents many opinions on different issues and institutions. Everything from different sources of world news, to social media, to music, to movies, TV shows, and documentaries, shape how people view institutions. The news that one consumes, their algorithm on social media (i.e. the voices and opinions and accounts they are exposed to), the music they listen to, and the entertainment they watch all affect how people view different institutions. If someone's news source is praising the United States, then they will view our governmental institution in a more positive light than someone whose news source speaks about negatives and inequalities within that institution. One's social media algorithm will also promote certain ideas and certain institutions, which will then influence people's opinions.
