Stress is both a physical experience which involves bodily changes and a psychological experience through the way in which a person perceives their circumstances (Sarafino & Smith, 2017). According to the American Psychological Association, stress is a normal reaction to the pressures of daily life, but can become unhealthy when it begins to disrupt daily functioning.

The impact that stress has on the body is both emotional and physical.
Emotionally:
When the body experiences some type of stress, the brain will respond with an expression or a feeling. If these things go unresolved they can lead to the loss of sleep, isolation, and even depression (National 1995).
Physically:
There is a hormonal response to stress as the body is experiencing its "fight-or-flight response". When this happens certain systems of the body compensate for others to return the body to a state of homeostasis. Research shows that 80% of all health related problem are either cause of worsened by stress
(National, 1995).

The results of the the two quizzes I took were similar and surprising. The first was the Stress Level Test on PSYCOM (https://www.psycom.net/quiz-results/?qid=16_2) which scored mild indication of high stress and the second test was the Stress Quiz found on Cigna (https://www.cigna.com/takecontrol/tc/stress/quiz/moderate#10) which resulted in moderate levels of stress.

Personal Stress & Coping Strategies
I experience stress the most in my life from the responsibilities I have and the relationships that I am involved in. School and work can contribute to the stress that I experience. While relationally, my friends and family can create stressful experiences. Over the years, I have learned to prepare myself for stressful situations and do what is necessary to minimize and avoid stress as much as possible. I plan ahead and stay organized which has helped to eliminate stress. While in school I keep and up-to-date agenda filled with all my weekly responsibilities. This allows to be aware of what is coming and plan accordingly, which reduces much of my day-to-day stress. I also enjoying a routine of working out, which allows my body to exercise and release unnecessary toxins and built up tension.

Getting Help Finding Support

There are many resources available to help with stress management. I have found that exercise on a regular basis is a great way to manage stress. Receiving regular counseling may also be helpful. A trained professional can provide the tools and coping skills necessary for working through stress. Being involved in a local church is also helpful, faith and spirituality have a major impact on the experience of stress. Getting involved in this type of positive community is very helpful. Some of the local places in my area would be:
1. The Crossings Church has a group for young adults that meets monthly to worship and be in community with one another. Located 3535 W Sahara Ave. Las Vegas NV 89102 702-947-2080
2. Renewing Life Center provides christian based counseling and therapy for many different needs. Located at 3243 E Warm Springs Rd Unit 100 Las Vegas NV 89120

This type of therapy has been shown to be the most effective in the treatment of stress. The foundation of this therapy is that thoughts impact behavior, meaning that negative thought processes will lead to resulting negatives behaviors. With CBT individuals are taught to recognize and change negative thoughts patterns and utilize tools to improve negative self-talk (Beal 2019).
