1. Grip the Shot Put

Hand Position: Hold the shot put in your dominant hand, with your fingers spread comfortably around the ball.

Palm: Your palm should be underneath the shot, supporting its weight, while the shot rests on your fingertips. This allows for a controlled release.

Wrist: Keep your wrist firm but flexible, allowing for a quick flick during release.

2. Positioning the Shot Put

Shoulder Placement: Place the shot put against your shoulder on the side of your throwing hand. It should rest on your shoulder, close to your neck.

Elbow Position: Your elbow should be bent at approximately a 90-degree angle, pointing outward. This creates a stable base for the throw.

Body Orientation: Stand sideways to the throwing direction, with your non-dominant side facing the target.

3. Stance

Feet Position: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Your dominant foot (the side you’re throwing from) should be slightly behind the non-dominant foot.

Knees: Keep your knees slightly bent to maintain balance and readiness.

4. The Throw

Wind-Up: Start by shifting your weight onto your back foot. As you prepare to throw, bring your shot put side back, away from your target, to build tension.

Explosive Movement: Shift your weight forward onto your front foot while simultaneously extending your legs and hips.

Arm Extension: As you push off the ground, bring your elbow forward while extending your arm to propel the shot put. Use your legs and hips to generate power, not just your arm.

Release: Release the shot put at a 30-45 degree angle, with a quick flick of your wrist at the end of the throw to add spin and distance.

5. Follow Through

After releasing the shot, allow your arm to follow through naturally. This helps maintain balance and control as you finish the motion.

1.What is the difference between putting and throwing?

What's the difference? A throw resembles anything you'd see from a baseball pitcher to a discus thrower. A put is a pressing movement with basically no shoulder rotation. The implement follows a straight path from the neck through the release.

2.An athlete throws a discus from rest to a final angular velocity of 15 rad s^-1 in 0.270 s before releasing it. During acceleration, discuss moves a circular arc of radius 0.810 m . Acceleration of discus before it is released is. A javelin is thrown with an initial velocity v 0 at an angle θ with the horizontal.

3.The shot put is an event in which the participant stands inside a circle and attempts to "put" a weighted ball as far as they possibly can. The "put" is different than a "throw" due to the motion of the arm. it has a history back to ancient times when people threw rocks for distance.

*The athlete must rest the shot close to the neck, and keep it tight to the neck throughout the motion. The shot must be released above the height of the shoulder, using only one hand. The ball is to be put (i.e. pushed), not thrown with an overhead motion. At no time may the shot move behind the plane of the shoulders.

what is the style of shot put?

Two putting styles are currently in general use by shot put competitors: the spin and the glide. Initially dubbed the' Oldfield Spin,' the spin technique was invented by Brian Oldfield. To execute the spin, athletes begin by facing away from the putting direction.

Grip – sit the shot at the base of the fingers (not in the palm or in the fingertips). The thumb and little finger rest around the sides of the shot and the three middle fingers are at the back. The shot shall touch or be close proximity to the neck or the chin.

According to the internationally applicable athletics rules, the shot (a heavy spherical ball) is pushed from a concrete throwing circle with a diameter of 2.135 metres. This circle is bounded in the direction of impact by a curved, white, usually wooden toe board. The solid metal ball should be completely round

disqualifications in shot put

The athlete can be disqualified for leaving the circle before the shot hits the ground, or leaving the sector lines. The athlete must not put a foot past the toe board, or it is a disqualification. The athlete must not take longer than 60.00 seconds to take a shot; it is compulsory to put the shot in the given time.

1. The Difference between ‘ Shot Put ‘ & ‘ Discus Throw ‘. — Jeslyn, 7 Pythagoras.

Simply, the difference between shot put and discus throwing is the way you move your arm.

First, let me give you a short explanation on what ‘ shot put ‘ & ‘ discus throwing ‘ are!! :))

Shot put : Shot put is a type of sport where athletes are supposed to throw a round heavy ball as far as possible.

Discus throwing : A type of sport where athletes throw heavy discs that are fixed around 1 kg - 2 kg. The farthest throw wins.

The action of ‘ Shot put ‘ is closer to pushing, unlike discus throwing, you can rarely predict where the item will land, as if you’re pushing something down. This action is also performed with a specific pose before you can execute the action.

Shot put athletes are also required to be heavy. ( Over 72.7 KG. )

As for Discus Throwing, it does not require any specific type of pose, but you will still need a lot of muscle energy due to the heavy disc on your hand. To throw, you do not push. Instead, you swing your arm towards the target / the direction you are supposed to throw your item at.

Discus thrower Athletes are mostly tall, because taller people tend to have longer arms, which helps with throwing to further distances.

This event emphasizes a spinning technique that generates momentum, allowing athletes to achieve maximum distance.

1. Athletic Characteristics

-Shot Put:Athletes tend to have a stocky, muscular build, as the event relies on upper body strength and explosive power. Greater mass helps in generating force to push the shot.

-Discus Throw:Athletes tend to be taller and leaner, benefiting from longer arms for leverage and improved mechanics, which aid in achieving greater distance.

2. Equipment

-Shot Put: The shot is a solid, spherical weight (7.26 kg for men, 4 kg for women). Its shape requires a controlled pushing motion from the shoulder.

-Discus Throw: The discus is a flat, circular object (2 kg for men, 1 kg for women) designed for aerodynamics, allowing for spinning techniques to optimize flight distance.

3. Technique

Shot Put: Athletes use a pushing motion, employing either the glide or spin technique to generate force. Balance and body positioning are crucial.

Discus Throw: The technique involves spinning within a circular area to build momentum. Precise timing and coordination are essential for a successful release at the right angle.

Step 1 (Holding the Shot Put)

The shot should be positioned at the base of your fingers, just above the palm. Your thumb should wrap around the bottom for support, allowing for a secure grip that enhances balance during the throw.

Step 2 (Neck Positioning)

Place the shot against the side of your neck, ensuring it sits slightly behind your ear and below the jawline. This positioning provides stability and control.

Step 3 (Arm Orientation)

Your throwing arm should extend outward, forming about a 90-degree angle with your torso. Bend your elbow comfortably so that the shot remains snug against your neck for better leverage.

Step 4 (Setup Position)

Before starting the throw, position the shot behind your dominant foot. This setup helps generate momentum as you prepare to launch.

Step 5 (Weight Transfer)

Shift your weight to your back leg in preparation for the throw. This will help you harness your body’s power as you initiate the movement.

Step 6 (Initiating the Throw)
Push off with your back leg while rotating your hips and shoulders toward your target. This explosive movement is for generating power.

Step 7 (Releasing the Shot)
Fully extend your arm and release the shot at an angle of 30-45 degrees. Ensure you snap your wrist at the release for added propulsion.

Nabila 7 Aristotle

shot put and discus throw-each requires a different set of skills and techniques. In this event, track athletes use a heavy metal ball, pushing it from the shoulder using either a glide or spin technique. This does take a great deal of upper body strength and precision to ensure a powerful, straight throw. While shot put is performed with an iron cannonball in a linear motion, discus throwers use a flat, circular disc and a spinning motion, requiring weight balance and timing to release at just the right angle. Both events have rich historical roots and are often considered the centerpiece of the Olympics when it comes to highlighting specific athletic skills, making each event stand out in it’s own right.

Shot put and discus throw are both track and field events, but they have key differences:

1. Equipment:

   - Shot Put: Competitors throw a heavy spherical object called a shot, typically made of metal, weighing 7.26 kg for men and 4 kg for women.

   - Discus Throw: Athletes throw a disc-shaped implement, usually made of wood and surrounded by a metal rim, weighing 2 kg for men and 1 kg for women.

2. Technique:

   - Shot Put: The shot is typically pushed away from the shoulder using a technique called the "glide" or "spin" method, with the athlete starting from a stationary position within a 2.135-meter-diameter circle.

   - Discus Throw: The discus is thrown from a circular area similar in size, but the technique involves spinning the body and releasing the discus in a horizontal flight path.

3. Throwing Style:

   - Shot Put: The focus is on explosive strength and power, with a shorter, more direct motion.

   - Discus Throw: The emphasis is on technique and timing, as the spin and angle of release greatly affect distance.

4. Distance:

   - The distances achieved in both events can vary significantly, with elite male shot putters often throwing over 20 meters, while elite discus throwers may reach distances of over 70 meters.

5. Training:

   - Training for each event involves different strength, conditioning, and skill-focused routines tailored to the specific mechanics of the throw.

These differences contribute to the unique challenges and strategies associated with each event.

How to throw a shot put - alviera 7 Aristotle

Description of the Technique:

1. Starting Position:

   - Stand inside the shot put circle with your feet shoulder-width apart. Position your non-throwing side (opposite your throwing arm) slightly forward.

2. Holding the Shot Put:

   - Grip the shot with your dominant hand. Place the shot against your neck, specifically at the base of your neck, near your shoulder. Your fingers should wrap around the shot, with the shot resting on your shoulder.

3. Body Positioning:

   - Keep your knees slightly bent for balance. Rotate your body to face sideways to the direction of the throw, with your non-throwing shoulder forward. Your elbow should be bent, and the shot should remain close to your body.

4. The Throw (Rejection):

   - Initiate the Motion: Shift your weight onto your back foot while turning your hips and shoulders away from the target. This winding motion builds potential energy.

   - Pivot and Extend: As you pivot on your back foot, push off and rotate your hips forward. Your throwing arm should move in a powerful, fluid motion.

   - Release the Shot: At the peak of your extension, release the shot with an upward and outward motion. Your wrist should snap at the end of the throw to add spin and distance.

   - Follow Through: Allow your arm to fully extend after the release, maintaining your balance as you finish the throw.
