School life of teenagers

During
SOURCE A

It was mandated that the locals attend the newly-erected Japanese schools, and learn the language. Existing schools were pressured to teach their curriculum in Japanese, and students were made to sing the Japanese national anthem. ... To further supplement Japanese education, Japanese lessons were played over the schools’ broadcasting systems (this part is sourced from the Singaporean history textbook Singapore: From Settlement To Nation Pre 1819 To 1971).

Source: Written by Kelvin Goh, on Quora.com

From this source, I can infer that teenagers had a stable education because they it was compulsory for them to attend school. I can also infer that school life was hard and stressful because they were forced to learn Japanese. This could be seen when "existing schools were pressured to teach their curriculum in Japanese" which tells us that the schools were reluctant to change the main language of English to Japanese to teach their students. In order for students to learn Japanese more efficiently, "lessons were played over the schools’ broadcasting systems. This shows that Japanese was drilled into the students' brain every time. Hence, with these factors, I can conclude that students had a stable education.

Before
SOURCE B

It wasn't, in those days, there wasn't that pressure on us and the teaching was good. Most of the teachers were Indians largely. There were in Muar, perhaps one or two Chinese teachers and one or two Malay teachers...

Source: http://www.nas.gov.sg/archivesonline/article/memories-of-joshua-benjamin-jeyaretnam; Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam as interviewee, interviewed from 2005 through August 2008.

From this source, I can infer that education was not as stressful as the education received during the Japanese occupation. This could be seen from "there wasn't that pressure on us and the teaching was good." This shows that students were not forced to learn anything they didn't like.

From these two sources, I can infer that there is no difference between the school life of teenagers, as they still attended school before and during the Japanese occupation. However, there is a change of content in what the students learnt. Before the Japanese occupation, students learnt their mother tongue, however, during the Japanese occupation, students were forced to take up Japanese as a subject, which was very hard to understand.

This means that the people had sufficient food and clothing. I can infer that there were no shortage of food during that time. Thus, teenagers had plenty of food to eat before the Japanese occupation

During
SOURCE B

This picture shows a family with a family with a father and a girl eating porridge together in a mess up house with dirty clothes. This means before the Japanese Occupation and during the Japanese Occupation has a difference in the lifestyle of people. I can infer that teenagers during the Japanese occupation did not have a lot of food to eat due to food shortage or the food that they only have left to eat is porridge. Thus, There was a big difference in the food teenagers ate during and before the Japanese occupation.

Before
Source A shows teenagers working as fishermen. This source tells me that one of the jobs before the Japanese occupation is being a fisherman. I can infer that there were stable jobs before the Japanese occupation and people were able to get a job.

During
Source B shows a lot of people on boats at sea.
This tells me that one of people's job is fisherman during the Japanese occupation.
I can infer that that jobs of people did not change regardless of the Japanese occupation. There was no change as the jobs of the people in Singapore had before and during the Japanese Occupation remained the same but the jobs might be tougher. Thus, i can conclude that jobs did not change much by the Japanese occupation.
