The bad thing about factories is that smoke comes out of it kind of like a fireplace. The smoke goes into the air & pollutes it. That is not good humans need air to breathe and putting pollution in the air mixed with a carbon monoxide is going to be harder for the plants to take the polluted air and turn it into clean air.
