One of the most important aspects of the show is hating president Donald Trump, as can be seen in the image below. The president has been a very hot topic among feminists since he started his campaign and the artists who took part in this art exhibition are using their pieces as a form of protest against his sexism.

Another aspect of the Nasty Women exhibition is women's empowerment which is a feminist concept that is usually seen as part of the core of the ideology. This image depicts women's shoes combusting which is probably a metaphor for women being powerful as described by the terms "hot" and "on fire". The piece is titled “Hot Heels”, created by Julie Curtiss.

The final aspect I will describe here is a strategy used by feminists to appropriate sexist remarks and turn them into a pro-woman meme. For example, the term nasty woman is being used by the artists to make feminism more interesting. Here is Donald Trump portrayed as a woman, with a distorted face to go along with the title which is "“nasty woman” by Naoko Tadotsu.

There are many points I could make to describe steps that could be taken by this art collective to more effectively deliver their message, such as whether their boldness has the potential to drive people away from their ideas, but I will focus on what I consider to be the most important aspect which is the quality of the art itself. In the four examples above, there are very crude art pieces attached to show what kind of art is being presented at the show. I believe people would be more drawn to feminism if it were associated with beauty and elegance as opposed to the grotesque creations that were a part of the show. Of course, it could be argued that the shock value of these pieces captured the attention of many people, which I believe is probably true, but at the end of the day people usually tend to remember art that is a product of exceptional skill and creative depiction of the human spirit.
Final Thoughts

The Nasty Women art exhibition is interesting to say the least. I was entertained by what the artists came up with, and even though the entire thing was in poor taste it was still for a good cause which is what matters the most. I understand that other people have a different way of expressing their ideas and so I"ll respect them as long as they have good intentions, but I still think it's a flawed way to present the concept of women's rights. I do not think this was effective as they could have done better through a more nuanced approach that would create less controversy, so I'll leave that as my official stance on the matter.
