(1.2.15-23)
During the battle between Scotland and Norway, Macbeth stepped in and began fighting. He was dominating everything and everyone by using his strong, powerful, self. Macbeth is clearly a strong individual who is not afraid to fight and get dirty. He shows this through his violent fighting in the battles, proving that he can help his side win.

The witches told Macbeth he would become Thane of Cawdor, and he replied with, "Stay, you imperfect speakers, tell me more! / By Sinel’s death I know I am Thane of Glamis. / But how of Cawdor? The Thane of Cawdor lives, / A prosperous gentleman; and to be king /

Stands not within the prospect of belief, / No more than to be Cawdor. Say from whence / You owe this strange intelligence, or why / Upon this blasted heath you stop our way / With such prophetic greeting. Speak, I charge you." (1.3.70-78).
In the previous scene, King Duncan is blown away by Macbeth's loyalty and bravery to the country. Because of that, he decides to name him Thane of Cawdor, because the current one is a traitor and will be executed soon. The readers know this, but Macbeth does not. In this scene, he is told by the witches that he is soon to be Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth is confused because he does not know that the current Thane of Cawdor is a traitor and will be executed. This provides the readers more of an experience with the book while they are reading because they know more than what some of the characters in the play know, and it overall creates more of a suspenseful reading,

(1.4.11-14).
The execution of the Thane of Cawdor makes King Duncan reveal something about the two of them. Before he found out Thane of Cawdor was a traitor, they had a good relationship going on, a very trustful relationship. But what ruined that? The fact that he became a traitor and betrayed his country. Because of that, King Duncan decided to replace him with Macbeth, a soldier who fought his heart out for the country. The action performed by King Duncan is showing that he just wants what is best for the country.

In the first scene where Lady Macbeth is present, she wants Macbeth to become King so badly that, "The raven himself... cry, 'Hold, hold!'" (1.5.38-54).
In Lady Macbeth's first appearance in the play, she learns that Macbeth has just become Thane of Cawdor. Because of the witches' prophecy, saying he will become king, she is getting cautious because he will not kill the king so he can take his place. Lady Macbeth soon decides she is going to kill him herself so Macbeth becomes king. From this, readers learn at a very early point in the play, that if she doesn't get what she wants, she will make it happen, just as she is doing here.

Herein I teach you / How you shall bid God 'ild us for your pains, / And thank us for your trouble." (1.6.10-14).
In the previous scene, Lady Macbeth mentioned several times that she is planning on killing King Duncan so Macbeth can take his place, and that she is doing it tonight while he is spending the night at their house. This proves to be dramatic irony because the readers know that Lady Macbeth will kill, or at least try to kill King Duncan tonight, while he has no idea this is going to be happening.

Macbeth contemplates killing Duncan or not when he says, "If it were... on th' other." (1.7.1-28)
Macbeth's soliloquy that begins act 1 scene 7 shows emotions from Macbeth we never thought we would see. Each time he has a soliloquy like this, the readers see more and more of him, and can tell the truth is really tearing him apart on the inside. He doesn't know who to trust in this situation: Lady Macbeth, who is telling him to kill Duncan so he can become king, or his conscience, which is telling him that killing him is the wrong thing to do. As much as Macbeth wants to become king, he points out that King Duncan trusts him too much for him to just betray him like this and kill him for no good reason. The challenge inside of himself really reveals more of Macbeth's vulnerable and personal side that isn't portrayed that often.

Lady Macbeth introduces the scene with some imagery and figurative langauge saying, "It was the... stren'st good-night." (2.2.3-4)
The sound of the owl shows significance to this scene, after killing King Duncan. She mentions that she hears the shrieking of an owl, which can only represent the death of someone, which in this case, is King Duncan. She then goes on to compare the owl to a crier over the death. It overall connects two unlike things, the death of King Duncan and the shrieking of an owl to make a meaningful comparison.

While he was preparing to murder King Duncan, he constantly thought about what to do. He almost didn't go through with the plan because he was thinking about it too much. But now, two acts later, he is the total opposite. He doesn't even hesitate when he wants to kill Macdiff's entire family.

(3.1.72-73).
Macbeth develops the thought of murdering Banquo since he feels as if he can't trust him. Banquo is full of pride and danger, and Macbeth doesn't like that. So what does Macbeth do when he doesn't like something? Oh, he kills someone! Because that makes everything better, right? The majority of the time, he doesn't like what fate has in store for him, so he is challenging it, and trying to change it. It is clear that he is not going to let Banquo's son(s) become king, so he is trying to twist the future and hopefully not kill too many people in the process.

(1.3.48-50)
Macbeth finds out from the witches the prophecy, and that he will become king after King Duncan. He ponders this because he is still alive and well, so King Duncan would have to die before Macbeth becomes king. Macbeth continues to have crazy and poisonous thoughts when it comes to the prophecy the witches gave him. Macbeth doesn't want Banquo to be part of any plan to bring him down so Fleance can become king, so he just has the wild idea to kill him (yes, because the solution to everything is to just kill someone). At the beginning of the play, he was so hesitant, and then transformed into a wild beast after killing King Duncan. (3.6.1-24).
The entire scene where Lennox is talking, he mean the exact opposite of what he is saying, making it verbal irony. He is saying he is catching onto Macbeth because the killing of Duncan and Banquo just doesn't make sense unless Macbeth in fact did it himself. Lennox uses this as a bit of a humorous way of getting his point across, by saying the exact opposite of what he means.

He is recognizes how greed is worse than lust, which all goes back to Macbeth. They know Macbeth is only doing everything for himself. Lust is clearly pretty bad, and they're saying Macbeth's greed is much worse, which means it is really bad, and Macbeth needs to be stopped.

(5.1.35-40).
When Macbeth is gone, Lady Macbeth was reported to be sleepwalking at night saying how sorry she was for everything she has done wrong. A gentlewoman brings the doctor for him to see for himself, and it is true. Lady Macbeth is constantly trying to "wash her hands" meaning she is trying to get the sins off. This shows so much growth from the beginning of the play because she was encouraging Macbeth to do all of these nasty deeds, which she obviously supported. Now, it seems as if they switched personalities and she is feeling bad for all that they have done, which did not happen earlier on in the play.

(5.2.29-30).
Before they keep going, they pause to say some things about their plan. What Lennox mentions does not really have anything to do with flowers and weeds. He means that they need to feed the loyal flower, who is Malcom, and drown the weeds, by getting rid of Macbeth. They use this in this way because it is a new and interesting way for readers to think about this one line, rather than just explicitly stating what it means.

(5.5.17-28)
What kind of husband says this after they just found out their wife died? Macbeth. Of course. This is yet another example of hoe he has developed into a horrible person who only cares about himself. He drove his poor wife insane because of all the things he did that were not in the initial plan, and that ultimately lead to this. Because of how selfish he truly is, he didn't think of anyone but himself after hearing this. He wasn't like this at all in the beginning! It really shows how greed can change a person for the bad.

When Macbeth is fighting the Young Siward, he tells him, "Thou wast born... a woman born." (5.7.12-14).
Macbeth is so convinced that because of the prophecy, nobody woman born will ever be able to bring him down (which technically is everyone because they were all born of women). What he doesn't know is that he will be dying by the end of the play somehow. It follows the pattern of Shakespearean tragedies, which means Macbeth, the tragic hero, will somehow die. He also doesn't know that armies of men, lead by Macbeth, are coming after him, and most likely will kill him. This creates suspense for the readers because they are going to want to keep reading to see what happens.
