Ray and became my real mother" (Kidd 12)<br><br>Here, Lily is so desperate for a mother that she imagines Rosaleen, who acts as a motherly figure,  as her actual mother.  Lily is still hopeful that she can find maternal love somewhere since she is not lashing out in anger or aggression.</div>]]></description>

At first, it was a hiding spot from T. Ray's meanness.After T. Ray goes to bed , just to lie under the trees and be peaceful. It was my little cubbyhole." (Kidd 14)<br><br>Here, Lily is describing how she has no love and comforts herself by being independent. She comforts herself by sitting under her tree which is like a new roof to live under for Lilly.</div>]]></description>

When&nbsp;Lily is neglected by her father she turns to her mother's items that she has to try to connect to the love she could have had if her mother was around.  </div>]]></description>
