This is the first stage in Erikson's theory of psychosocial development. This stage basically helps infants learn to trust their parents or caregiver with their basic needs.

As a child my mom was always there to comfort me and give me everything that I needed as a child. I only felt comfortable with her.

"When the baby is near the attachment figure and feels safe, the baby feels free to explore the environment. When the baby feels threatened or scared, the baby approaches the attachment figure and seeks contact comfort- or being held or cuddled."

This is the second stage of Erikson's stages of psychosocial development. This stage focuses on toddlers developing independence and self-control. Toddlers begin to learn to do things on their own. They being to explore everything around them.

My mom said as a child I was very responsible and independent. She would say that I would pick out my clothes on my own make myself breakfast before school.

"In toddlerhood, the critical theme is autonomy, or a sense of agency and independence."

The third stage of Erikson's theory occurs during preschool years. Children begin to interact through direct play and social interaction. A child begins to make decisions for themselves.

I was responsible and independent as a kid but when it came to playing with others I was always shy. I never took control because I was always afraid of what others would say or if I would upset them because we didn't play what they wanted to play.

"Children love and want to be loved and they very much prefer the joy of accomplishment to the triumph of hateful failure."

In the fourth stage of Erikson's theory, this happens around the ages of 6-11. In this stage children begin to compare themselves to others and begin to question how good they can be.

When it came to school I had to make sure I always did my best. I always excelled in every subject especially in reading. I just loved reading and being above the reading average. Books were always my go-to.

"Developing a sense of industry, by contrast, involves learning how to work hard to achieve goals."

In the 5th stage, teens begin to feel confused about themselves. They begin to ask where do they fit into the society. As they try to establish a sense of self they begin new activities and different behaviors.

In 6th grade we moved to a new city where I didn't know anyone. I remember my mom telling me this was fresh start to step out of my shyness. When I got to this new school I didn't know where I would fit in. I was confused on who I was. As I got older I resolved this issue because I knew who I was all along. I didn't want to fit in with everyone, I wanted to be my own person.

"Identity forms as young people resolve three major issues: the choice of an occupation, the adoption of values to live by, and the development of a satisfying sexual identity."

People begin to share themselves intimately with others. They begin to commit to long term commitments with someone other than family.
Throughout high-school I had many friendships and only kept one of those friendships. I had a relationship in high-school that ended. I ended up meeting the love of my life a couple years after high-school and we ended up having a son.
