1 in 3 Latinas experience IPV in their lifetimes, and 1 in 12 in the last 12 months. Es hora de usar tu VOZ! Enough is enough with the silent culture Hispanic women have grown up with. It is time to speak up against domestic violence against women, a concept that should not be undermined or belittled. Women who have experienced IPV may be too afraid to seek help or understand that they are a victim. Out of fear or lack of awareness, many women do not seek help (socially or medically) but remain isolated. Love should be understood as a concept of nurture, trust, acceptance, and a pact between two people to care for one another. A breach of these concepts should not be viewed as a norm but as a risk for IPV. Women should not be confused and depict violence as a part of the spectrum of what love is. If you find yourself feeling uneasy or uncomfortable with your partner, you should speak to others and create a safe space. Help should not be viewed as a concept that is far from reach. Women are strong and have courage like no other; therefore, I desire to help women break out of the silence and use their voices. Immigration status or gender should not prevent you from seeking safety, love, and security. It is high time to encourage the society to put in suitable guard measures to ensure our young girls and women speak out whenever they are facing any risk related to sexual harassment in the society. Education young women is key to keep them informed about their rights and the procedures they need to put in place to ensure they report all cases and complications which limit achievement of their goals and objectives. Respecting young women is key as it set a solid foundation on how members of the society should protect women and girls.

Young women are the most vulnerable demographic to experience intimate partner violence. Love is hard to define. However, love is clearly not defined as physical, sexual, or psychological abuse. Any type of partner violence can lead to a mental and physical toll on the victim. Some mental health consequences of IPV are depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and PTSD. Some physical consequences of IPV include irregular menstrual cycles, insomnia, and a greater risk of high blood pressure. Please do not be afraid or ashamed about experiencing abuse at this age. The beautiful part about life is that you can always change the ending of your story. You can come out on top as a warrior. You can regain yourself with the proper resources, guidance, and time.
