“Even like the deed that’s done. On Tuesday last/A falcon tow’ring in her pride of place was/Was by a mousing owl hawkd at and killed”

This depicts chaos for hawks are animals of pride and strength that fly higher than other birds in the sky and this a symbol of royalty and might. How ever the murder of King Duncan in which Macbeth betrayed him created a natural disorder for unnatural deeds breed unnatural consequences and disturbances in the natural order of things. A mouse is a hawks prey and the fact that a mouse killed its own predator portrays the chaos and disorder caused by Duncan’s death.

“On Tuesday last/A falcon towering in her pride of place/was by a mousing owl hawked at and killed” The falcon is a strong bird and symbolises royalty and might. The fact that it was killed by a mere mousing owl symbolises the chaos and disruption since Duncan’s death
"Ist nights predominance or the days shame/ That darkness does the face of earth entomb” Although it is morning, it is still dark leading us to question whether dark is more powerful or day is ashamed to look on the murder?
"And Duncan’s horses -a thing most strange /and certain/ beauteous and swift the minions of their race/ turned wild in nature broke their stalls flung out” Duncan’s horses symbolise their loyalty towards him and as Macbeth and the previous Thane of Cawdor they ended the loyalty. It symbolises the havoc created because of the murder of the king and disruption of natural order.

“Ha, good father,

Thou seest the heavens, as troubled with man’s act,

Threatens his bloody stage. By th' clock ’tis day,”

Here Ross says that the Heavens seem angry with the Earth and that the skies seem angry with “mans act”(Duncan’s murder). In Roman mythology it is believed that when that when the gods(primarily Zeus) were angry at the humans they would cause the sky to rumble and there would be thunderstorms and lightning. The gods also only used to become this angry when a truly atrocious act took place. Here Shakespeare uses religious comparison to show that Duncan’s murder is such an evil act that the gods feel the need to intervene.

“A falcon, tow’ring in her pride of place,/ Was by a mousing owl hawked at and killed.” (Act II. Scene ii. 15-16)
This quote is saying that the falcon was always with it’s honor because of how powerful it was however the mouse, though weak, killed the prideful falcon. Shakespeare uses the falcon and the mouse as an example of what had just happened in the play. Due to the fact that, even though Duncan was a lot more powerful than Macbeth, Macbeth was still able to kill the king and come out on top. Hence, this also exemplifies the motif disorder because a falcon is not suppose to be killed by a mouse however, that is not the destiny that the powerful Duncan had in the play.

“Ah yes, old man. You can see the skies. They look like they’re upset about what mankind has been doing, and they’re threatening the Earth with storms. The clock says it’s daytime, but dark night is strangling the sun. Is it because night is so strong, or because day is so weak, that darkness covers the earth when it’s supposed to be light?”

It is unnatural and disorderly at it seems as if the “dark nightis strangling the sun”. This is a foreshadowing to the way Duncan was brutally killed. Sunlight symbolises warmth and happiness where as the dark and cold night symbolises unhappiness. This shows that there is disorder throughout following Duncan’s death.

Zohra Farhan
"Malcolm and Donalbain the kings two sons/ Are stolen away and fled which puts upon them/ suspicion of the deed”
"The sovereignty will fall upon Macbeth”
Malcolm and Donlabain were supposed to become the rulers of Scotland as named by Duncan. Now their father was dead Malcolm had automatically switched from the heir to the king but however Macbeth was the one earning the title. This symbolises the disorder in Scotland after Duncan’s death. There was also a link to the Divine Roghts of Kings too because Duncan’s chosen heir had not become the king and the disruption in nature could be a symbol from God to show the people that Macbeth was not to be in power. Thus, Macbeth disrupts the natural order due to his act of regicide and his blood thirsty nature symbolises disorder
