Oversteegen was a Dutch Resistance member during the end of WW2. At 14 she would lure and kill nazi and dutch collaborators with her sister Truus and a friend Hannie Schaft. Later in life the Oversteegen sisters would open the Hannie Schaft Foundation which is dedicated to raising awareness regarding the dangers of extremism and racism.

Freddie Oversteegen was born on September 6th, 1925 in North Holland. She grew up in the city with her sister and their mother. In 1939 her mother would take in Jewish refugees. In 1941 the Oversteegen sisters joined the Haarlem Resistance Group. Truus would later say “Only later did he tell us what we’d actually have to do: sabotage bridges and railway lines,”.

Freddie's roll was to bring Jewish refugees to a new hiding place and working in the emergency hospital. And to seduce nazis and their allies into the woods so they could get assassinated by another member. Oversteegen was extremely good at luring men because she looked/was a young girl. She would later do these missions herself when she learned to shoot nazis. The sisters never revealed how many men they killed.

After the war

When the war ended in Europe in 1945, Freddie had a lot of trauma due to her dealing with the fact she had killed people. She later said she coped "by getting married and having babies,”. She was left with insomnia where she would see a person she shot fall and she couldn't help.

Later life

Freddie opened the Hannie Schaft foundation with her sister, received national recognition for her service to her country, and got married to Jan Dekker and had 3 kids. In 2018 on September 5th a day before her 93 birthday Freddie passed away due to a heart attack.
