When I was in elementary school I attended a field trip to Bass Hall to watch a performance of The Nutcracker. The musical pieces incorporated has made it my favorite performance to watch to this day.
   One of my favorite things about this orchestra is that they play a little bit of everything. They play the more popular pieces that are a part of the musical canon as well as pieces that you may be unfamiliar with. Watching the orchestra perform may result in you leaving with a new piece of music on your playlist. 
 Though they do have some unfamiliar works performed at times, they sort of have a routine when it comes to which pieces they perform. The quote kind of reassures and explains that even though it may at times seem that newer pieces are taking over the musical canon, they're not. The main reason I think this is because it is great studying music.  This orchestra is definitely smaller than the Fort Worth Symphony. They hold their concerts in two different auditoriums (which are not very large at all may I add) and only play about five classical concerts a year. They have a focus on giving younger students the opportunity to learn and create music themselves. 
For this season, they have performances like "The Orchestra Rocks" which includes famous rock pieces. They also have a performance titled "Music of John Williams" which is a performance based around well-known pop music. It seems like for each performance they have a focus in a particular genre which I think is different and interesting. Some have grown accustomed to performing pieces that are a part of the musical canon while others play pieces that many people may be unfamiliar with. I've chosen to review a more popular group, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, as well as a smaller orchestra, the Santa Cruz Symphony.
