I want to teach English because I feel it's my cup of tea. I feel like I can be useful. It's like I'm opening up a new world for those who are just starting to learn the language. I like that I can show that a foreign language is not a scary and very exciting thing.

I am also interested in how to cope with various difficulties in teaching English, how to make lesson plans, choose textbooks by level and topics, control discipline during class, how to motivate students.

In this case, language learning will be most effective in individual classes. If an adult is learning English for travel or for a hobby, they can choose group classes.

We now know that not only children can learn. Education of children is compulsory, formal and standardized. Adult learning is voluntary and intentional. In my opinion people are different and they have different goals. Adult learning is based on the learners experience and on the experience of others that is why they learn information quicker. They learn language by different situations which are close to them. For example: if it is a theme “food” in the class, they can discuss situations which happened with them in restaurant or in the shop and they can discuss topics of their concern. One of the reasons why people learn something is to make new relationship. For many people, building new relationships is difficult, specially for people who work every day. Learning is a wonderful way to find new people. They can not be work together, but if they are both learning the same thing it can be a really great way of bringing new people into your life. And I need to mention that if adults don’t have a goal or desire it will be hard for them to learn something new.

Unlike children, adults already learn a language with a specific purpose, and the format of learning already depends on the goal. If an adult learns a language just to travel and speak the language at a household level, then these will most likely be language courses where classes take place in a group and oral speech is trained, work is underway to remove the language barrier. The language for working in a specific field requires individual lessons and the study of professional literature. To pass the exam, both formats of classes are possible, one for oral training in groups, the other for working with the written part individually. Adults, of course, even more often use additional sources of language training to keep the level or practice the acquired knowledge, it can be practice with a foreign interlocutor, watching movies, reading books.

I think adults learn languages only if they have a specific goal. It’s not like with the children, no one can force them to study.
I suppose in most cases it’s for a work or travelling and hobby. And the format of studying depends on it. If it’s for work, we need some specialised books and resources. If it’s second case there are much more possibilities. They can watch videos, listen to podcasts and watch any content they are interested in. There is no boundaries. I believe that adult people not inclined to sit with textbooks and learn every rule. It would be more relevant for them to discuss their experience with a partner or group.

many adults learn English for various reasons. Someone wants to delve into a certain professional area: medicine, industry, etc. Someone needs English for general use, travel and communication.
How exactly to learn English is the choice of each person. Some people are uncomfortable with one-on-one sessions and choose group sessions. Some adults, on the contrary, choose personal communication. Someone learns the language on their own, finding the information they need on the Internet. The only problem with learning English for adults is the lack of time. Therefore, everyone chooses the most suitable way of education for himself.

In comparison with children, adults know their destination, their goal. It depends, surely, but most of the adult people have reason for learning a new language, not just to know it. So, that’s easy to make a conclusion that methods have a strong connection with the destination. Individual classes can help understanding new information quicker since teacher work with a particular person and both adapt much faster. Group classes seem to be more popular not only because of the lower price. Actually, it can be more productive because adults have better concentration and can notice other’s mistakes in order to avoid them in the future.

Methods seem to be completely different from those used with children, since adults learn new language not that easy. But, from my own experience, they have another point of view while learning, because they are able to analyze complicated constructions and understand the way grammar and word building works. When you are a child, many “how”s and “why”s don’t have an answer, that’s why a struggled with English for almost all my life until university. I started learning Chinese being an adult person and it for real helped me with the perception of new info, my questions almost always have answers that are not “just memorize it”. Far not everything can be explained in a simple way.

One more important difference is that the work is not divided into equal parts: most of the time adults spend learning in the classroom since lack of time for “non-auditorium” practice. So the key methods of these classes are maximizing the productivity of time spent in classroom and shortening the way to the “point of destination”.

To begin with, I would like to say why it is “never too late” to learn a language. Many people think that language can only be learned in childhood. However, adults have some advantages over children that can help in language learning, such as experience, understanding of concepts, wide vocabulary in different topics. It is also worth mentioning the greater motivation in learning the language. The answer to the question "why", in my opinion, lies in the goals that adults set for themselves. It may be a personal goal to learn how to speak and not be shy during this process, to "revive" school knowledge. They might need a language for work or travelling. They might want to learn the language to teach it to their children. There can be a huge number of goals, and it seems to me that the answer to the question "how" is directly related to the answer to the question "why". For adults, all doors are open: courses, tutors, various applications for learning the language, and so on. Let the language enter your life and it will never be the same.

Unlike a child being guided by their teachers and parents, an adult has the freedom to figure out why they want to learn something and find their own motivation. There are numerous reasons for why an adult might want to learn a new language, from just wanting to be able to communicate with someone on their travels to needing in for their job to expand their knowledge in some particular field of study.
Because of that adults are also able to choose how they're going to achieve the goals they've set for themselves. People who desire a high proficiency level in a language might want to enroll in a course with an educator, while people who just want basic communication skills can get away with watching some videos online and consuming media in their target language without getting into such things as grammar rules.

English is the international language. Many books, computer apps, studying literature is based on the English language. Children and adults usually have different purposes of learning new language. Most children at the young age don't even want to learn it because they do not understand the real value and profit for the future. When we are speaking about adult people they often have peculiar reasons why they want to learn English. The most popular goal to achieve is for the development in the career and for payment rise. I have an example of my mother's friend who came to me one day and asked :"Can you help me with learning English please? My boss told me that if I have some paper that will proof my knowledge I will get a higher salary". Of course, I was shocked. And the main reason why was the boss's words. The company didn't tell that they need not only "a paper", but a professional who has real knowledge for future success. Maybe she just didn't mention it,but still it was really strange.
The second reason for adults to learn English is to undertake an internship and to make a huge breakthrough at your work. (The development of hard skills). For example, I have a friend who works in IT field and their company helps and encourages them to learn English by paying for their classes and speaking clubs on some English courses.
The third reason is to go on vacation alone, with friends or family somewhere the English language is essential. Usually the first trip to some English speaking country is like a cultural shock for people who have basic knowledge of this language because native speakers use lots of expressive means, different meanings of one and the same word and some jokes that will be not understood if your knowledge of English is at a minimum level. One of my colleagues wanted to go to Europe and she studied English for many years just to fulfill her dream in the future. And of course she made it!
Another reason is to continue your education abroad so there you should have an extensive training in English.(for the academic purposes).
Some students learn English just to become more successful in their business, to achieve some higher results and the teacher should understand that these very students need a practical application of their knowledge in real world.
Some people go to English classes to have their pronunciation being corrected, others have problems with writing or listening or even just have speaking classes and to improve your speech.
There can be lots of reasons why people in general study English. But of the person is already going to English classes, just know: "Everything happens for a reason" and just be glad for it.
