Map of Astronomical Institutions by Lis Zwicky

PLEASE READ FIRST. Empty/repeated submissions will be deleted/not approved. To contribute: All places should be supported by some link and description with research topics. For universities list available astronomy related programs. For observatories and labs list their main instruments with basic stats (e.g. aperture size/wavelength range). Each post has a color that can be used for filtering: Black --- Research Institutes --- places that exist mainly for research purposes without offering education; Blue --- Universities --- places that have BSc, MSc or PhD astronomy programs; Green --- Observatories --- places that currently conduct observations for research purposes; Purple --- Laboratories --- places that conduct astronomy related experiments or develop astronomy related technology. If in doubt, look at examples of other places. Initiated and moderated by Lis Zwicky (lis.zwicky@csfk.org).

The most important astronomical observatory in Hungary, hosting the largest telescopes of the country. (High-speed) photometry, and small amd medium-resolution spectroscopy

are available. The largest telescope is a 1m Richey-Chrétien-Cassegrain telescope. The 60/90/180 cm Schmid-telescope with a 3x3 degree field of view is a dedicated insstrument to near-earth (and imminent impactor) asteroid search. The 80cm robotic RC telescope is the latest addition, which is primarily used to follow-up astrophysical transient objects. Main research fields: Solar System, Near-Earth Asteroids, stellar occulations, stellar variability (pulsation, eclipsing), stellar activity, stellar formation and evolution, young stellar objects, astrophysical transients, supernovae.
