AS There are many refugees and none of them are carrying any of their riches. This shows the struggle that refugees endure, these struggles are very similar to modern day. You can see the citizens being marched through Mesopotamia without all of their belongings. This shows that things have rarely changed throughout history when it comes to war besides who is fighting and how.

The relief carvings show the story of the middle east, particularily Syria, and the rise of the middle eastern theatre. It also depicts the stuggle that many refugees faced when the war ended. This idea of innocents struggling with the hardships that come with war can be reflected onto the current refugee crisis in Syria. The podcast also discusses how war, refugees and violence is cyclical and how the cycles of violence have to reflect themselves as they did after the king of Syria's sons killed him. From the idea of cyclical violence we can reflect that into modern and more mundane lives and use that to approach the subject of abuse and crime violence, not only war. Because violence is cyclical we are nearly doomed to an eternity filled with hate if the violence is not stopped before it can be passed down.

In the image, you see how the walls of the room are largely covered by the carvings. They are aligned in a way that looks as though, if read up close, they would tell a story. If, for instance, it was read from left to right, there would be a point in which the group of stories would reach it's end. In the podcast, they talked about the cycle of war, and if I or someone else who had heard the podcast would have made our own lachish reliefs, we would probably have a reference to the son killing the king as well as the re-starting of that cycle with the new king.
