People in Drama work in the agricultural field They cultivate beans, potaotes, tobacco, olive trees, cotton and vegetables of various kinds such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, cabbage, aubergines and peppers.

The industrial economy of Drama includes small-scale mining (particularly of marble) and forestry. Recently, there have been efforts to exploit the rich local natural environment and to develop ecotourism. There are also a lot of wineries that are famous for their wine varieties.
