The mother
No, the mother is not a dynamic character. The mother or what we assume is the mother is a static character. This is because she never  changed her attitude during the story. She stayed upset, aggressive and in a sense stubborn towards the father the whole time. Evidence of this can be shown from the beginning of the story when she said to him    "Son of a *****! I’m so glad you’re leaving!" This showing her aggressive side, but also to the end when she became a bit more stubborn. This is shown when this quote is read "She felt her fingers being forced open. She felt the baby going from her. No! she screamed just as her hands came loose." This shows that even when she felt the baby leaving her grip she still tried to keep it in her arms. This showing  the stubborn part of her. The father
Just like the mother the father  was also a static character. Unlike her though  he was weirdly calm during the story, he didn't have any type of attitude towards her nor was he upset. If anything he was the opposite of the mother, weirdly calm and quite.  Examples of this is are him repeatedly saying "I want  the baby." or  "Let go of him."  These are nothing alike to what the mother was doing or saying. With this that the man says hes showing that he cares about the baby , that even though hes leaving he wants to take the baby with him because he cares .  Hes very persistent but yet in a calm way about it, he knows what he wants and so hes not going to go down without a fight . Which is why the women and him go back and forth saying who keeps the baby .

The one that they're fighting for in this story is that the father wants to keep their child, but the mother refuses to let the man that is leaving her to have the baby. Throughout the story we see how  repeatedly back and forth they fight for the baby, both being selfish , knowing that it’s a baby they're pulling back and forth as if it was nothing . This shows that the mom is having so many more emotions at the moment then the dad , she basically can't control them , which is showing a more aggressive side to her , by the way shes talking . Shes mad but she wants the dad to look at her in the eyes because she know he can't. This song connects to the story because the lyrics say that they Once cared about someone very much but they didn't know that at the time until it was too late.  

So maybe after the all fighting and the baby incident he finally realized how much she meant to him and maybe she felt the same too.
