One take away from behaviour change is learning about lapse and relapse. For lapse, it is a temporary return of the unhealthy behaviour and relapse is when the client returns to when they are before receiving treatment.
I would help myself and others to prevent from relapse by using coping strategies. For example, they should learn to walk away from undesirable situations that might trigger their relapse.

One take away that I have learnt from this module would be the different types of behaviour change theories such as transtheoretical, health belief and social cognitive models.

Using one of these theories, I could help myself including others on which behaviour change theory is the most suitable for them. For instance, my mother falls under the pre-contemplation stage (TTM) as she is not aware on the importance of physical activity and the different chronic diseases that she could develop if she continues to live a sedentary lifestyle.

However, by educating her can help to increase both of her knowledge and awareness on the importance of taking better care of her physical health before it is too late.

So with these I can come up with my exercise plan with the making use of what I have learnt. As for others, like for example if I have friends who drinks or smokes a lot and they hope or wish to quit their habits, I can use what I learnt to provide information for them to help them with their "quitting journey".

This allow us to assess the behaviour easily and using the suitable technique can be effective in reducing or possibly eliminate the bad habits which also prevent them from relapsing.

By sharing the knowledge and advices to others, it helps to increase their awareness of their health behaviours.

By simply understanding the factors that have been contributing to their current behaviour, they will be able to achieve a new targeted behaviour by using any of the techniques. I believe that these theories can help me use it for when I need to change a behaviour in myself or those around me. I can use the different factors in the theories and 4Ps to guide me into understanding why someone is behaving in a certain way and how we can address the issue. I hope to not immediately think the negative side of why someone is behaving a certain way but to interpret their behaviour through understanding the factors around them that are contributing to the way they are behaving.

One take away from S247 is understanding and learning about relapse and how to be able to prevent relapse of behaviour change. I think it is very crucial in behaviour change that one should not go back to their old negative behaviour. By this, I hope it can help my friends or family members change their behaviour and prevent relapse by using coping strategies for instance walking away from situations that does not bring them benefits which may be the trigger to their relapse.

I think the biggest takeaway from this module is the PER framework and logic model.
It acts as a planning tool that helps people work towards and achieve a certain target behaviour. It also provides layman-term prompts for identifying health behavior antecedents, which is why I think this knowledge will help both myself and others as it is easy to understand and also covers the five health behaviour theories, Health Belief Model, Theory of Planned Behavior, Social Cognitive Theory, ecological perspective and Transtheoretical model.

Some major takeaway that I have taken from this module is multiple theories that explain the nature of behavior change, explain the factors that facilitate the behaviors, describe conditions in which behavior is more or less likely to occur, and will allow us to suggest interventions in changing the behavior. These behavior change includes the transtheoretical model, health belief model, and social cognitive theory

With this takeaway, I can help myself and others by instilling change in bad behavior or habits if it affects our activities of daily living and if it is harmful to us. For example, my friend may be addicted to smoking, therefore, I can help him figure out why he starts picking up cigarettes, the trigger, how cigarettes are harming him, how he wants to improve his conditions, and develop interventions for him to improve his health and reach the goals

The takeaways from this module is that I am able to know what are the different theories and frameworks behind a successful change, which allows me to understand that behaviour change is a process that takes quite some time and effort as progress has to be slowly made. Hence, this can be applied both to myself as well as helping my family in terms of trying to undergo a behaviour change as I am now aware of the stages I have to go through to reach the desired behaviour and how I am able to do so or help my family to do so.

What is even more useful will be learning how to develop an exercise programme. From this module, I know what are the processes that needs to be completed before I come out with the exercise plan. I am now more knowledgeable in terms of how to conduct needs assessment through getting information from the 4P factors. This will be very useful for me as I am now able to come up with an exercise plan for my family members who are quite sedentary. I am able to use the information learned to encourage them to exercise even though they dislike it as I will develop the exercise plan as according to their needs.

One takeaway I have from this module would be learning about the different theories that can be applied in our everyday lives. A good example of one would be the "Transtheoretical Model of Change". (TTM)

Applying the TTM that I have learned in my daily life, I was previously a compulsive gambler. However, after learning what the TTM is, it guided me in changing my undesired behaviour of gambling by understanding which stage I am currently at. From there, I would be able to take small steps and work my way up by setting SMART goals to advance towards the next stages of change. Therefore, the takeaway of such frameworks can be useful in aiding my family, friends, and others in my social environment during internship or even in the future
.

One takeaway I have from this module is that it goes more in-depth into the different types of behaviour change models (TTM, SCT, HBM) than the other modules. For TTM, additionally I learnt some ways to be able to motivate someone to transition from one stage to another, and how to use motivational interviewing. It helps me to see the underlying factors that are influencing whether someone wants or do not want to change their behaviour.

This module helps me in identifying the behaviour that I want to change and how I go about changing it by listing down the predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors and also the SMART goals.

To help others, this module also helps me in my future career as a mental health worker as I am able to identify the barriers to change and help someone overcome them as well as to prevent relapse.

In S247, I have learnt a lot of techniques and theories regarding behaviour change both from a facilitator point of view and the client. I personally gained a lot of knowledge learning the theories, and I often use the SCT to change my behaviour.
For instance, if I realized I couldn't focus well when I am trying to do work, I know that personally, I understand and I believe I need to focus. However, my environment is distracting me which lead to my outcome behaviour: surfing internet. By using SCT, I can clearly point out where should I improve on therefore cultivating healthier behaviour.

From S247 Behaviour change, I’ve actually made use of the topics covered in my daily life. Last year, I had a goal to be more physically active by exercising twice per week. By using the logic model, I was able to see a comprehensive step by step guide for me to rely on. Especially since the behavior change models: TTM, SCT and HBM are included to help me achieve my goals. It was interesting to see how the behavior change models can be interplayed to change our lives for the better. For example, since I am now in the maintenance stage, I am aware of the temptation of relapsing will come. And if it comes, I know what to do and feel. I can do a personal contract since I like the formality of it.

Seeing how the logic model had helped me, I can use it effectively for my friends and family to change their lives too.

For example, we had 2 session with the elderly, one being the assessment, another one being the exercise programme with them. For the assessment, we need to understand their lifestyle and their attitude towards exercising. From there, I was able to apply the theories that I have learned in the module and come out with an exercise programme that can cater to most or all of the elderly, making it an effective programme for them.

With these knowledge, I make apply all these to create my own intervention for myself and others, at the same time, using the knowledge to the best of my abilities during my internship and in the workforce in the future.

Learning deeper and understanding about it more has helped me get the opportunity to apply in my life in order to help those around me. For instance, I have learned on how to maintain change and re-strategized once the individual fall into relapse. This will ease the progress and journey and allow the individual to be able to continue in progressively achieve their goal of change. Therefore, I am confident that I can correctly apply the various techniques in order to help someone successfully.
