As part of our topic My World, My Story, we've been learning about ourselves, our families, and the special stories that make each of us unique.

Today, we visited the library and enjoyed exploring books that connect to our learning—some about families, others about different cultures and experiences.

This week, we’ve been reading The Smartest Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson. The children have really enjoyed getting to know the characters and thinking about the kind and helpful choices the giant makes throughout the story. We’ve used the book to support our learning in English, including sequencing events and asking questions.

In maths, we’ve been focusing on place value. The children have been working on matching numbers to objects, recognising numerals, and beginning to understand how numbers are made up. It’s been lovely to see their confidence grow as they explore numbers in different ways.

One of the standout moments was watching the children re-enact The Smartest Giant in Town through their very own puppet shows. They brought the characters to life with creativity, expression, and lots of giggles — it was a joy to see their storytelling skills shine!

We also rolled up our sleeves for the Kingsbury Bake Off! The children had a brilliant time preparing cakes for the school bake sale, carefully measuring, mixing, and decorating their delicious creations.

This week in Maths, we’ve been busy learning all about number bonds to 10. The children used practical resources, games, and songs to explore how numbers can be combined to make 10. They practised representing number pairs in different ways and developed their fluency through fun, hands-on activities.

In English, we linked our learning to our topic ‘Getting on with Others’ by reading the much-loved story Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. We focused on the actions of the characters and how they showed kindness, teamwork, and friendship. The children discussed how the characters helped one another and what it means to be a good friend.

Throughout the week, we took part in a range of activities to support our social and emotional development. These included speaking and listening tasks, sharing games, and turn-taking activities. The children worked together, showed respect, and practised how to get along with others in positive and thoughtful ways.

This week, some of the children from Silver Class took part in an exciting Orienteering and Multi Skills event held at our school, alongside children from other special schools across Lancashire. It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get active, work as a team and make new friends. A huge thank you to our visiting schools: Pendle, Acorns and Holly Grove, for joining us and helping to make the day so memorable!
