Ads like this are all over Germany. These advertisements are interesting because someone told me that they get put up over cigarette ads. To me, this question is along the lines of peer pressure and the social component of smoking in Germany. Will they smoke like the rest of them or stray from the group? The audience for this ad is not just everyone who smokes, it is likely for the younger generations. I believe this because it is written in English. For one, older people aren't as likely to know English so it isn't focused toward them. Secondly, younger people not only understand English, but anything in English seems cool to them. So, this ad is sure to get their attention.

I also put it under non verbal because eventual by walking by like me, you can tell this is a healthy Store because they incorporate the green and have plants on the counters.

I took this photo while we watched the sunset from the yard for hours. This photo is different from my others, because it connects to mental health rather than physical. I think it is important to take time to clear your head and relax, and having a little retreat every once in awhile is perfect for that. My host mother uses this cabin as a retreat from her busy and noisy city life. She also has a garden there. I put this under environment because the physical surroundings of the cabin are what allow for the mental break and relaxation. There is fresh air, no internet, and plenty of quiet because there are so few people there. These are the reasons why my host mom loves going there so much, and why she thinks that it's important for other people to spend time in nature.

Biking is a wildly popular form of transportation in Germany, so you can find racks full of them just about anywhere. I placed this into environment for a few reasons. First, it ties into the idea of how large cities are and how far people need to travel. Even in big cities like Berlin, people are biking across town, because it's realistic. They are not only able to get from place to place relatively quickly, but also easily. Germany is flat for the most part making biking far easier than in the US. Lastly, environment includes population density, and seeing the amount of bikes and bike racks everywhere is a good visual for that as well.

This restaurant and shop is in downtown Wittenberg. I placed it into the language category because the name of it, "Terra Verde," is Spanish not German. This is interesting because Spanish is not a language spoken here, so they are communicating their purpose to people in a language that is not their own. There areI two reasons for why I think they may have chosen to do this. The first being that organic food is a trend, so it is something that the younger generations are interested in. Just like how English attracts them, any foreign language may serve the same purpose. Another possibility is that it simply stands out and catches people's attention. I also placed this under nonverbal because they use the color green which is widely understood as a color connected to healthy or organic food and lifestyles.

The German health care system is one of the most impressive in the world, and is key to the health of their society. It doesn't have to do with every day life choices, but having access to free health care whenever you are sick or injured is incredible. I put this under social organization because it is part of their society. The very fact that it is successful is because people here understand how important health care is, and think its a shared social responsibility rather than a business, like Americas often looks like. I also think it could go under authority because free health care isn't something that just happens; it took time and people within the government to make this happen and its success shows the success of their power and ability to make decisions.

We took this picture in Bergwitz, where they were setting up for a triathlon. Triathlons involve running, swimming, and biking, all of which are great ways to stay healthy. Not only during the race itself, but also during the months of training beforehand. In general, sports are very popular in Germany, especially soccer. So, I placed this photo, and the concept of sports in general, under social organization because staying active and participating in sports are very popular in society here. They are also a great way for people to hang out with their peers. I asked my host mom about what role sports play here, and she said that people do like getting out and either playing sports with friends or walking/running on their own. She herself wishes she had more time to go for runs because she used to quite often. She also said that it's important
to her that her kids get outside and get active as much as possible, so she'll take them for walks, swimming, bike rides, etc.

Gardens are very popular here; I have seen them all over and even saw a huge community garden when I was driving somewhere with my host mom. My host mom also has her own garden. The garden pictured here is at a school, so It is also combining the idea of healthy lifestyles with education. I talked to my host mom about community gardens and the little plots people can get, because those were new to me and I didn't really know what role they played here or how they worked. She said that they are pretty popular, but she herself hates them because they have too many rules. I didn't realize how intense they were, but I still think they show how the community works.

Having bike lanes throughout town and on highways is not something I see at home very often. I think they tie into healthy living because they make it safer to ride your bike places, making more people choose to do it. Also since there are so many, it shows how important and prominent bike riding is here. I placed this under nonverbal, because the red stones indicate this area as a bike lane rather than sidewalk. This also places it under context, because people understand not to walk on it. There is no sign that says to stay off, but it is understood.

Ever since I told my host mom that coffee sometimes makes my stomach hurt, she began making me tea instead. This is a more personal example of healthy living, but I placed it into social organization because it shows the importance of keeping a healthy family. Not only does my host mom want to keep me feeling good, but it helped her son when he was sick, and rosemary tea in general has many health benefits. This ties into the bigger idea of home remedy knowledge. My host mom knows tricks for a lot of things, and they are all through plants and herbs. She said a lot of people she knows have the same knowledge, or at least some, which I find interesting because you don't really see this in American culture.

It is communicating to potential buyers that it will damage their lungs if they choose to smoke them, which is something that they are required to tell people. But, it is far more obvious here than in the US.
