Location:

The stomach is a muscular organ located in the upper abdomen, between the oesophagus and the small intestine.

Structure and Function: Its primary function is to break down food through a combination of muscular contractions and digestive enzymes, including hydrochloric acid. This acidic environment helps to kill harmful bacteria and begins the process of protein digestion, transforming food into a semi-liquid mixture called chyme. The stomach’s role is crucial in the digestive process, as it prepares nutrients for further digestion and absorption in the small intestine, ensuring the body can obtain essential energy and nutrients for growth and cellular function.
