Visuals are important for ESL learners because they reduce their anxiety, increase their comprehension, and can even help them with decoding. Support your instructions with realia from the students' backgrounds, elements from students' cultures, and body language clues whenever possible. By including visual cues, you leave less room for misunderstanding and help form stronger connections with new vocabulary and phrases.

 • engaging in conversations that promote a wide range of vocabulary in either language; 
 • oral storytelling in your primary language and/or English. 
Ways to support the ESL program include:
• participating as a member of the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC);
• volunteering to engage in classroom activities;
