In the first 25 pages of the book, we learn that Caitlin lives with her dad and she lost her mother at a very young age. We also learn that her brother has recently passed away but we don't know-how. In these pages, Caitlin also talks about how she interacts with people. I was also able to see the sorrowfulness her dad was feeling during the first 4 chapters.

In this chapter, we also learn that she loves reading and she is very good at it. In chapter 7 the author shows Caitlin interacting with Josh on the playground and the author explains how Caitlin hates the playground because it's loud and bright. In this section, she is also pressured to make friends, feel emotions, and work in a group, though those are things she is unable to do and has given up on.
