  •  I have had many different experiences with UDL in the classroom. For example, I once had to create a lesson for the whole class, my focus child had sensory processing disorder, so it took me a little bit of thinking to come up with a science lesson that was accommodating for all the students and so that my focus child didn't find a barrier in the lesson by having to do a hands on activity, I created a lesson that was hands on but everyone kept their hands clean and still got the same learning opportunity while keeping it fun!
  • One strategy I would use in my future classroom to incorporate UDL would providing multiple means of representation.Multiple means of representation means to provide learners different ways to acquire information.   As a young student I always struggled with instruction just from hearing it, I always needed more explaining or some kind of visual to understand or learn something, with that being said I would be incorporating multiple means of representation  into my classroom through different approaches when teaching something new whether its through a song, a video, students acting it out for the whole class or some kind of hand out.

I have had several encounters with UDL in the classroom. One of the learning and teaching experiences I had encountered was alternative seating. Alternative seating such as bean bag chairs and having seat cushions for the kids was something they really liked. The students were extremely comfortable and were more focused when the teachers were talking through the lesson. This falls under optimizing individual choice and autonomy for the students. Furthermore, this was a great strategy to facilitate personal coping skills for the kids. 

    2. I think students grow frustrated and discouraged when they do not understand  what is going on in the classroom. One strategy I would use to incorporate UDL is the 6-Second Pause, which is a self-regulation tool a student can use to gain self control during an emotionally-charged or escalating situation. During the 6 second pause the student engages the analytical part of his brain for at least six seconds by participating in higher order thinking. They can do this by recalling six math problems
     or even six of their favorite foods. Within six seconds the students emotional response to the situation is interrupted and his analytical response is activated. This goes into providing multiple means of Action and Expression and Engagement in UDL.

During morning meeting at my placement my students would participate in a daily morning routine. The students would then do an activity regarding either colors or numbers. The students would then participate in a different activity based on the lesson that was being taught. At the moment students have done so many activities that had their mind focused so they would need a brain break which is something that we did with them. After the students finished their activities based upon the lessons being taught they either sang one of their favorite songs as a class or they participated in a dance party where we put a dance on the screen and they were able to dance along with the people leading the dance. This gave the students an opportunity to give their brains a break and let them stretch their bodies. 

    A UDL strategy that I will use in my classroom is free play. When free play is incorporated in the classroom students have the opportunity to go what they please. It helps with students social emotional development skills while the teacher will have the chance to just watch the students progression. The teachers can interact with the students as well even though it’s student lead.
