The Rengasdengklok event become an important part on the proclamation of Indonesian independence. This event took place the day before Indonesia proclaimed its independence. This event happened in order for Ir. Soekarno and Moh. Hatta immediately proclaimed Indonesia's independence.

The Rengasdemgklok event started with the dissent between the old and the young. The old will to implement proclamation of Indonesian Independence through PPKI while the young reject it. This is because PPKI is a committee formed by Japan. So that will be feared if the proclamation coupled with Japanese intervention will become a stamp that the independence of Indonesia was due to Japanese assistant. In addition, this incident was carried out in order for Soekarno and Hatta not affected with Japanese influence. The youth's before already do a meeting and deliver the result to Ir. Soekarno. But he refused because feel responsible with the PPKI he carries.

Finally, Shodanco Singgih, a PETA member, and other members took Soekarno and Hatta to Rengasdengklok in the early hours of 16 August 1945. Their way was to reassure them that Japan had surrendered and that the fighters would fight any risks. Not alone, at that time Sukarno was brought with his wife Fatmawati and son Guntur.

The reason the youth themselves chose Rengasdengklok as the hostage place was first, that it was far from Jakarta so that it was not disturbed by the Japanese. The second is the city that was first free from Japanese rule, which has been occupied by members of the PETA led by Syodanco Subeno.

In Rengasdengklok Soekarno and Hatta occupied a house belonging to a community member named Jo Ki Song of Chinese descent. The youth group tried to suppress the two leaders of the nation. However, the young people felt reluctant to approach him, let alone pressure him, because both of them were dignified leaders of the country. Finally, after talking with Sudancho Singgih, Ir Soekarno decided to proclaim Indonesia's independence after returning to Jakarta.

Then, Sudancho Singgih told Soekarno's statement to his friends and young leaders. At that time also in Jakarta the young (Wikana) and old (Ahmad Soebardjo) group held negotiations. As a result of the negotiations, the proclamation of Indonesian independence must be carried out in Jakarta. In addition, Admiral Tadashi Maeda allowed his house to be used as a place for negotiations and guaranteed the safety of the nation's leaders. Finally Soekarno and Hatta were picked up at Rengasdengklok.

The text of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence was formulated by Ir. Soekarno, Drs Moh. Hatta, and Ahmad Soebardjo at Admiral Tadashi Maeda's house in the early hours of 17 August 1945. At the time of the formulation, Ir. Soekarno who made the concept, then refined by Drs. Moh. Hatta and Ahmad Soebardjo. After the concept was completed and agreed upon, the manuscript was copied and typed by Sayuti Melik using a typewriter which was taken from the representative office of the German Navy belonging to Major Dr. Hermann Kandeler.

At first the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence would be read out in Ikada Square. However, seeing that the road to Ikada Square was closely guarded by Japanese troops, the reading of the text of the proclamation of Indonesian independence was carried out at the residence of Ir. Soekarno, namely at Jalan Pegangsaan Timur No. 56 Jakarta. On Friday, 17 August 1945 at 10:00 am the text of Soekarno's proclamation of Indonesian independence was read and then followed up with a short speech without text. The red and white flag that was sewn by Mrs. Fatmawati herself was hoisted by a PETA soldier, Latief Hendraningrat who was assisted by Soehoed. After the flag flew, the audience sang the Indonesia Raya song.

The Rengasdengklok incident itself is a very important event. Imagining the efforts of the young people to urge the two leaders of the country so that the proclamation should be hastened is a very persistent event. Imagine if they did not press for the proclamation to be carried out immediately. Maybe Indonesia's current independence was still interfered with by the Japanese people.
