Teachers are critical workers, keeping schools open so that students can continue to be educated in safe and Covid secure environments. We also recognise the part that they play in helping students to rebuild confidence and strengthen their resilience in worrying and stressful times for them and their families.

Students wrote electronic messages to their teachers to thank them for the work they do and the care and compassion that they show.
These were very well received by staff at school.

We even listened to the Zambian National anthem!
We set up a new classroom on or school Google classroom space where pupils can get involved in the project and keep up to date with developments. Some pupils have written letters to their peers in Zambia which will be emailed to Lushomo's Headteacher to be shared with the pupils who will send replies and answers to the questions.

Hello, my name is Nina.
              I am 12 years old and I have just begun year 7 in secondary school. I have 2 sisters, one older sister and one younger sister. Do you have any siblings? I live in Glynneath in the county of Neath Port Talbot which is in South Wales in the UK. Where do you live? I have not been to Zambia before but I have been to Namibia which was amazing. I was lucky enough to see animals like elephants, lions and more. Do you get those animals too? 
My favourite sports are gymnastics and horse riding; I often compete in both sports. I have been horse riding since I was 6 years old and have been doing gymnastics since I was 5 years old. My favourite animal is of course a horse. What about you? I have 2 cats and 2 rabbits and loads of fish, and hopefully i'm getting a horse soon! At the moment the weather is lovely. The sun is out and the sky is bright blue but often the days are very gloomy and dull with rain. How is school? I have only been at Llangatwg for a few months and i'm just starting to get used to it. My favourite subject is either PE or maths. Do you have a favourite subject in school? I also love hanging out with my friends. We tend to go to parks and make tik toks, but because of lockdown we haven't been able to go out as often as we I would like. Through lockdown I have been keeping myself busy by doing gymnastics and walking a lot at home. I would love to hear what you were up to over the covid pandemic, and what's your school like?

There are banana trees right outside the classroom which Friends of Monze built. Mango trees in the school grounds are much larger and provide much needed shade.

In Zambia it only rains from November to March. The rest of the year solar panels at Lushomo school provide energy to pump water from an underground bore hole to garden taps. It is important to "harvest water " using drainage ditches and swales, ditches along contour lines, thus preventing soil erosion and raising the underground water table.
