In the first story of who he wants to be he is asking the audience a broad question and elaborating on a theme that many of the audience members might have gone through. He also manages to put in some humor into his serious stories which also helps immerse the audience. The second to last story is effective because of the seriousness. There are no jokes and he used lots of vivid words to try and bring the audience in on the scars that she has and the torture she went through. The first half of the speech he tells about his personal stories in a humorous way, which made the stories more interesting and engaging. An example being from the segment "Bullying Yogi Bear" when he was taken advantage of by a peer but ended up fooling them in the end, and in addition was also able to show them that he was more than just a "bear with good grades." This, while sharing pieces of his childhood and of how he developed from its effects, was he also able to deliver such a strong message to all teenagers and adults alike. I achieved that by using methods of imagery and metaphors. Imagery was used in the portion of the video titled "Bullying Yogi Bear" when Shawn was picked on and told "too many picnic baskets" while his stomach was pointed at. Hearing that, you could imagine that this joke was targeted at him for being more heavyset than the rest of his classmates. When it comes to metaphors, Shawn described school saying, "Every school was a big top circus tent, and the pecking order went from acrobats to lion tamers, from clowns to carnies... we were freaks". In that quotes he points out that in his school may people, along with himself, were outcasted and degraded because of their differences.
