By telling the story of Link Deas, Bob Ewell and Hellen- Bob bothering Hellen and Link going after Bob because of it- it shows that Bob Ewell is attention hungry and needs someone to pay attention to him. This shows how broken his household is and that they are in need of desperate healing. The town could feel sympathy for the Ewell's if they "stepped into their skin and walked around in it."

¨Tom was a dead man the minute Mayella Ewell opened her mouth and screamed,¨ Tom didn´t have a chance the moment that Mayella accused him of raping her. It shows the racism of the time. Even though the Ewells are considered the lowest of the low, they will still take her word over a black man´s.

Miss Gates says in a democracy there is supposed to be no predudice whatsoever. She implies that a dictatorship believes in persecuting against certain people. This makes Miss Gates and the United States as a whole hypocritical because, as Scout has seen throughout the trial and in everyday live, colored people are persecuted often.

Scout being no longer afraid of the Radley house with her looking upon it as more sad than scary shows how Scout has grown throughout the course of the story because she is more afriad of the ways of the real world rather than childish fanticies, hardened by her experiences with the trial among other things.

By making Scout control her temper and responding to Miss Crawford by saying "Just a lady" Lee is showing that Scout has become more mature and is growing as a person. She no longer blows up at people and is able to keep her temper in check.

The story of Tutti and Frutti did not really seem like it was important to the plot line or like it added anything to the theme, characterization, etc. Lee including this story in the book helps to show that Scout can sometimes be an unreliable narrator. The reader needs to be able to identify this because if they don't, then they could miss out on a lot of things in the book.

After Tom get shot Aunt Alexandra has one of her few moments of redemption. She is quite upset, not unlike the children after the trial. By doing this Lee shows that she is developing as a character and is showing that if even Aunt Alexandra can be less racist literally anyone can.
