I have, and they didn't end up in the shelters because their owners were thinking about their welfare. Most of the animals in the ASPCA shelters are either abandoned or abused. People always say “Oh, that’s so sad,” when they see those images, but that’s it. They don’t do or say anything else. Animals can’t talk, WE are their voice.  It is important to raise awareness in recognizing animal cruelty and trying to prevent it.

The authorities seized 90 animals consisting of mini horses, horses, goats, poultry, and rabbits. They were in horrible conditions and had no access to any fresh water. The article also said there were many dead animals on site. The lady was charged 30,000 dollars cash for the cost of medical treatment. 

    This type of cruelty is called Animal Hoarding. Animal hoarding is a type of animal cruelty because it’s a human behavior that results in animals becoming ill, starving or dead. Animal hoarding is not when someone just has a lot of animals. The definition of animal hoarding is when a person has more than a typical amount of animals and is unable to provide minimal standards of nutrition like sanitation shelter and veterinary care. To be an animal hoarder you have to deny that you have a problem, animal hoarding is a mental disability that is linked to hoarding and OCD (Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder).

Taking pictures of the animal or of the animal being abused would help, I know your instinct is to confront the person abusing the animal but hold back the urge and take pictures if the authorities decide to take it to court. There are many ways and organizations that help prevent animal cruelty and I think we should let people know about the ways to prevent this social issue. Some signs of animal cruelty is no shelter lack of grooming (matted fur, burrs, etc.) mange a type of skin disease starvation an embedded collar and sores or scars of any sort. Some of the organizations that help animals are, People for the ethical treatment of animals (PETA). PETA was founded in the 1980s and is the world’s largest animal rights organization. Another organization is the American society for the prevention of cruelty to animals (ASPCA) founded by Henry Bergh in 1866. Lastly there’s the humane society of the united states also known as HSUS. The humane society of the United States was founded in 1954 and is the largest animal protection organization in the U.S.

Another way to show your support is to neuter you animals so they can’t start a family if the get loose or if they live outside, and if your wanting to buy a puppy or kitten don’t buy them from a puppy mill they have horrible conditions and the people that run them are just greedy for money and I know you might feel sorry for them but if you buy an animal from them they just have a reason to stay open. There are many ways to prevent animal cruelty and I think we should raise awareness in recognizing animal cruelty and trying to prevent it.
