         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Teach</strong> - With phonological processing abilities in mind.<br><br>Figure1.3 on pg 10 - explain in EC LETRS?<br><br>Spoonerisms - It's been a sun fummer!&nbsp; (More complex phono. processing - manipulation)<br><br>Syllable completion as a phonological activity was new to me.<br><br>Teach phonological awareness skills rather than sight words.&nbsp; However, continued exposure allows for a combination of P.A and sight recognition - such as child's name)<br><br>PA awareness contributes to reading comprehension, writing, word recognition and spelling development.<br><br>Keep bringing instruction back to print.<br><br><br><strong>Instruction</strong> - Recent phonological theories focus on nonlinear instruction.<br><br>Onset-rime includes teaching alliteration and rhyme.<br><br>Simple phoneme awareness tasks require 1 operation and compound phoneme awareness tasks require 2 operations and have to hold the first step in memory.<br><br>Analogy&nbsp; theory- teach rime as a way to learn "units" vs. separate sounds<br><br>Logographic instruction is appropriate.<br><br>Spelling strategy - look at the word, listen to the sounds in the word, cover the word, spell the word<br><br>Incorporate both decoding and encoding.<br><br>Mastery vs Integrated approach - we are choosing integrated - explain to teachers that the reason why is because students with disabilities need exposure to all skills.&nbsp; Integrated approach is beneficial when working with a range of developmental levels.&nbsp; Can do multiple activities in one session!<br><br><strong>Assessment</strong> -&nbsp; Use different differing tasks that are best suited to measure different stages of child development. &nbsp;<br><br>Focusing on multiple skills during instruction is ok, but we need to assess all skills.  There can be carry over to other activities and we want to ensure that skills are retained and continue to progress.<br><br></div>]]></description>
