At the end of the book Liesel is 14 years old which is 3 years younger than me so I can relate to her because I can picture my 14 year old self in those situations. It also helped me because it wasn't all about the Holocaust, you saw the normal activities of these people's lives like making dinner, reading, stealing food, that don't really relate to the Holocaust but were affected by the Holocaust.
