Massive shootings keep taking away the lives of innocent men, women, and children, while the number of gun owners in the United States keeps increasing. This huge problem not only comes from the disturbed minds of those who decide to end the lives of others but also the debates that existed and continue to take place about gun control and the measures that should be taking when someone wants to buy a gun. While the 2nd Amendment gives people the right to bear arms, so more freedom and rights for citizens, the massive shootings that keep taking place have not been enough to pass legislation to end this atrocious issue that’s removing countless lives from society. While it must be noted that the use of guns by individuals serves as self-defense and the protection of their families, the negative side of the use of guns overpasses this great weapon for “protection”. So, if we can’t ban guns, why are not enough measures being taken to protect people? Why is it that its "easier to pick military-style weapons than to adopt a Chihuahua?"(The New York Times). Some states have no steps when it comes to acquiring a gun and that has been the headline of many debates about gun culture. While I have learned that banning guns will not be possible due to many reasons, one of them being the 2nd Amendment giving the rights to bear arms, I have also learned that there's minimum regulations when it comes to buying a gun. For these reasons I would like to expand my research and have more knowledge about the different types of measures and regulations that should be taken when someone buys a gun. I would also like to know more about the connection between mental health and gun violence, in connection with how psychological tests, and background checks should be added to the steps when buying firearms due to the fact that not a lot of measures are being taken. I'm also interested in how gun violence, mental health and suicides are related to one another. In addition, I plan on researching about how other countries deal with gun violence, the measures that they take and how it affects its citizens. I want to know if those countries have guns banned? Do they have strict laws?
