         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>How did the discovery of gold affect the settlement of the West? <br></strong><br>The discovery of gold drew more settlers to the west which introduced more frontier towns, that had extremely filthy living quarters. Railroads were also set up, because of the increase in the amount of settlers the government made it so the tribes boundaries. These boundaries were not followed most of the time which lead to fights with the settlers.</div>]]></description>

Why did it fail? <br></strong><br>In the spring of 1868 a conference was held at Fort Laramie, in present day Wyoming, that resulted in a treaty with the Sioux. This treaty was to bring peace between the whites and the Sioux who agreed to settle within the Black Hills reservation in the Dakota Territory.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>What happened at the Battle of the Little Bighorn? <br></strong><br>Was fought on June  25, 1876, near the Little Bighorn River in Montana Territory, federal army led by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, against Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors. Tensions between the two groups had been rising since the discovery of gold on Native American lands. In 1875, after gold was discovered in South Dakota’s Black Hills, the U.S. Army ignored previous treaty agreements and invaded the region. This betrayal led many Sioux and Cheyenne tribesmen to leave their reservations and join Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse (leader of the tribes) in Montana.<br><br></div>]]></description>
