In my own inaugural poem, I also want to refer to things like that, using the past to reflect on us today, or using today to help see what's coming in the near future. I will probably bring up the past of America in my poem. Parts of the past i would bring up is the racial problems we have in america. And comparing the past racist events to the present ones, showing that we havent really changed. But, I know racism is a heavy topic so I want my poem to be the opposite. Some of the symbols reflect back on America's negative past. I believe this was to encourage deeper thinking. One technique I will put in my inaugural poem is just that. I want to have in depth/hidden meanings rather than have everything on the surface.
