Gold was found in California by James Marshall. So after many people heard about this they rushed to California. Many men that went were single young men because the journey options that you could take where harsh. But some married men went but left there wives. Although some wives felt as though they were not just going to stay behind, so they went with there husbands. The wives that went starting charging the miners for food and pretty soon they started building hotels. But mining wasn't it all it was thought out to be. The miners spent hours in icy cold water panning threw dirt and mud trying to find the tiniest bit of gold. But there would be fights at the mining camps over gold and people stealing other peoples gold.
